L'Assomption

The basics

Position: Maintenance Technician / Electromechanic for an indoor farm

Location: L'Assomption, QC

Employment type: Full time, permanent, on-site, 35h/week

Salary: 32-35$ per hour

Languages: French required, English a strong asset

About the role

We grow fresh strawberries and plants indoors, and our systems never take a day off. As our Maintenance Technician / Electromechanic, you are the person who keeps the farm running: irrigation and nutrient systems, climate control, lighting, and the equipment that moves and supports our crops. One day you are tracing a leak in a plumbing line, the next you are rewiring a control panel or building a new rack section from scratch.

This is a hands-on, do-a-little-of-everything job on a growing team. Our operations are limited to an indoor pilot facility today, but we plan to expand to another larger facility in the coming years, so the role will grow with us.

What you'll do

- Inspect, maintain and repair the farm's core systems: irrigation and fertigation, plumbing, HVAC and climate control, lighting, and electrical distribution.
- Carry out preventive maintenance rounds so problems are caught before they cost us a crop.
- Troubleshoot breakdowns quickly, find the root cause, and fix it properly rather than just patching it.
- Do plumbing work, including hard PVC cutting, priming and gluing, and keep water lines tight and clean.
- Handle electrical work: wiring, panels, sensors, motors, pumps and controls.
- Service and repair pneumatic components and lines.
- Weld and fabricate as needed for repairs and custom parts (not required but an asset which will allow you to work on more projects).
- Build, assemble and modify equipment, racking and infrastructure for recent projects and expansions.
- Work closely with the growing, production and management teams to plan downtime, prioritize repairs and give clear updates.
- Log your work and keep maintenance records current (tasks, parts used, recurring issues).
- Follow all safety procedures, and help keep the workspace clean and safe.

- Take on other tasks as requested by your supervisor.

What we're looking for Your experience and training
- DEP/AEC or diploma in industrial maintenance, electromechanics, industrial mechanics or a similar field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 2–5 years of experience in maintenance, production-line, agri-food, greenhouse or similar environments.
- Solid skills across several trades: plumbing (including hard PVC), electrical, mechanical, and general construction and assembly.
- Working knowledge of pneumatics.
- Ability to work in both English and French is strongly preferred, since our team and suppliers use both.
- Welding skills (nice to have).
- Valid driver's licence.

Who you are
- A generalist at heart. You like doing a bit of everything and get energy from variety rather than specializing in one narrow task.
- Someone who owns problems. "That's not my job" is not in your vocabulary. When something breaks, you jump in and think along with the team.
- Someone who takes direction well. You follow instructions and procedures, ask when something is unclear, and flag risks before acting on them.
- A clear communicator who can work with suppliers, colleagues and management.
- Organized, reliable and careful about safety and quality.
- Availability for occasional evening or weekend interventions in emergencies is an asset. This would be for urgent situations only.

Nice to have
- Experience with hydroponics, controlled-environment agriculture or greenhouse systems.
- Familiarity with PLCs, sensors or farm automation and control systems.
- Interest in growing with a company that is expanding its production.
- Experience with welding and fabricating.

What we offer
- Salary of 32-35$/h
- Paid vacation
- Free coffee
- Free parking
- Free fresh produce (when available)
- Varied, hands-on work in a fast-growing company
- Real room to shape how maintenance works as we expand
