About us

955 Contracting Ltd. is a heavy civil contractor working on a major uranium mine development in northern Saskatchewan. Our site team builds roads, pads, airstrips, drainage and water management works, and runs aggregate crushing, with more than 100 personnel on site.

The role

We are hiring a Quality Manager to lead quality on site and to build our company Quality Management System. Our client works to nuclear-industry quality standards. You will take a quality program that works in the field and develop it into a documented, auditable system that stands up to that level of scrutiny.

The position is open to a direct hire or an independent contractor. You will report to the Senior Project Manager and share the position with a second Quality Manager on the opposite rotation. You will have the mandate, a QC team to lead, and direct access to senior management to get it done.

What you will do

- Develop the 955 Quality Management System: quality policy, manual, procedures, forms and records, aligned with ISO 9001.
- Own the project Quality Management Plan and keep it current as new scopes are released.
- Write Inspection and Test Plans for each work package and take them through client review.
- Run the inspection and testing program: daily QC reports, inspection requests, compaction and material testing, and survey verification.
- Manage non-conformances from identification to close-out, including root cause and corrective action.
- Deliver complete turnover packages as each scope finishes.
- Lead the QC Coordinators and the Document Controller.
- Work directly with the client's quality representatives, the Engineer of Record, the testing laboratory and the surveyor.
- Report quality performance to project management each week.

What you bring

- 8 or more years of quality experience in heavy civil, mining or major earthworks construction, with at least 3 years leading a quality program.

- A track record of writing a QMS or project quality plan, along with the ITPs, procedures and forms that sit under it.
- Working knowledge of earthworks QC: compaction and Proctor testing, gradation, geotextiles, culverts, and road, pad and airstrip construction.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001. Experience with CSA N286 or another nuclear-grade quality standard is a solid asset.
- ASQ certification (CQM/OE or CQA), a CET or P.Eng., or equivalent is an asset.
- Clear technical writing, and the confidence to enforce hold points with clients, superintendents and crews.
- A valid driver's licence, the ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing, and willingness to live and work in a remote camp.

What we offer

- Employee: $55 to $70 per hour depending on experience, straight time for all hours worked (about $120,000 to $153,000 a year on a full rotation)
- Independent contractor: $88 to $110 per hour depending on experience, all-inclusive and straight time for all hours worked; you carry your own WCB coverage, insurance and remittances
- 14 days on / 14 days off, 12-hour days
- Camp accommodation and meals while on site
- Travel to and from site provided

How to apply Apply on Indeed with your resume. In your cover note, describe a quality system or plan you built: what you started with, what you put in place, and how it performed under audit. Tell us whether you would join as an employee or as an independent contractor.

Pay: $55.00-$70.00 per hour
