Multiwood Inc. | Calgary, Alberta
Department: Engineering / Manufacturing
Reports To: Lead CAD/CAM Manager
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
About the Role
Multiwood Inc. is looking for an experienced CAD/CAM Programmer to engineer and program custom wood products for our Calgary manufacturing operation.
You will turn drawings, customer requirements and samples into accurate models and CNC programs that the shop floor can run reliably. The role covers our standard product lines as well as new and custom work. It suits someone who understands both design and manufacturing and can work independently.
Our products include custom wood doors, MDF doors, composite five-piece doors, dovetail drawer boxes, mouldings and other specialized components. The work involves both established product lines and unique custom requirements that demand sound technical judgment, creativity and an understanding of how digital designs translate into physical manufacturing.
The successful candidate will take ownership of translating product concepts, customer requirements, physical samples and technical drawings into fully engineered, production-ready models and CNC programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain 2D/3D CAD models and CNC programs for our products and components.
- Turn drawings, specifications, sketches and physical samples into production-ready files.
- Develop new and custom products and check every design for manufacturability.
- Select tooling, machining strategies and parameters, and optimize material use.
- Work with CNC operators and production staff to validate programs and solve machining or quality issues.
- Build and maintain templates, standards and an organized library of product files.
- Document methods and improvements, and look for ways to reduce errors, rework and programming time.
Qualifications
- Proven hands-on experience in CAD/CAM programming in a manufacturing environment. Woodworking, cabinetry or millwork experience is preferred.
- Strong skills in 2D/3D CAD modeling and CNC programming using industry-standard software.
- Good knowledge of wood and composite materials, construction methods, joinery and tolerances.
- Able to read technical drawings and work from samples or concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and file-management discipline.
- Able to work independently and collaborate with production teams.
- A technical diploma or certificate in CAD/CAM, drafting, manufacturing or a related field is an asset. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Experience using CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Fusion 360)
Nice to Have
- Experience with parametric modeling, configurable product libraries or programming automation.
- Experience with nesting, material yield optimization and introducing new products into production.
Why Multiwood? This role offers a variety of products and real involvement in product development. Your work will directly shape how we design and manufacture. If you combine strong CAD/CAM skills with practical manufacturing knowledge, we would like to hear from you.
