Senior IT Project Manager – HR AI and Automation

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Work Arrangement: Hybrid—three days per week onsite

Employment Type: Six-month contract

Schedule: Typically 8:30 AM–4:30 PM; must be online by 9:00 AM

About the Role

We’re seeking a Senior IT Project Manager with hands-on experience managing AI projects and solid Agile delivery skills to lead technology initiatives supporting Human Resources.

The team is introducing AI and automation to simplify HR tasks, improve workflows, and support applications such as Workday. HR experience is preferred, but candidates with relevant AI project management experience from other business areas are encouraged to apply.

You’ll work with a small delivery team to turn business needs into clear requirements, maintain detailed project plans, and coordinate delivery through development, quality assurance, user acceptance testing, and rollout.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage AI and automation projects from planning through implementation and transition to ongoing support.
- Maintain project plans covering scope, milestones, deadlines, resources, dependencies, and deliverables.
- Work with HR stakeholders to identify tasks and processes that could benefit from AI or automation.
- Gather and validate requirements, translating them into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritized work items.
- Keep project records and delivery tasks current in Azure DevOps and/or Jira.




- Use Kanban boards to make workflow, priorities, progress, and blockers visible.
- Coordinate Agile delivery activities, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and release planning.
- Participate in or facilitate team stand-ups Monday through Thursday with a team of approximately four to five people.
- Track risks, issues, decisions, and scope changes; resolve blockers and escalate concerns promptly.
- Provide regular status updates and facilitate stakeholder discussions.
- Coordinate development, quality assurance, UAT, deployment readiness, change management, and adoption activities.
- Maintain organized documentation and follow action items through completion.

Required Qualifications

- At least one year of experience working on AI projects, including project management responsibilities.
- Experience leading technology projects from planning through implementation.
- Practical Agile delivery experience is required, including an understanding of how work moves through development, testing, and release.
- Experience using Azure DevOps and/or Jira to manage clearly documented stories, backlogs, and delivery progress.
- Strong project planning, organization, prioritization, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to gather requirements and communicate clearly with business and technical teams.
