Employment Type: Full-time
About Us
Queen & Rook is a creative, fast-moving company focused on producing content that informs, inspires, and challenges the way people think.
We're a small, collaborative team that values creativity, initiative, and people who take pride in their work. We believe outstanding content comes from strong ideas, thoughtful execution, and a willingness to experiment.
We're looking for a Social Media Content Creator to help us create, edit, publish, and manage engaging video content across our digital platforms.
About the Role
This is an opportunity for someone who already has a foundation in video editing and social media but wants to take their skills further.
You'll work on YouTube videos, short-form content, thumbnails, captions, and other creative assets while helping manage our social media channels.
We're looking for someone who understands what makes people click on a video, keeps them watching, and encourages them to engage.
You don't need to be an expert at everything. You do need to be creative, resourceful, detail-oriented, and genuinely interested in becoming great at what you do.
What You'll Do
YouTube Content & Channel Management
- Upload, schedule, and publish YouTube videos and Shorts.
- Create engaging thumbnails that capture attention.
- Write compelling video titles, descriptions, and captions.
- Organize and maintain our YouTube channel, including playlists, video details, and publishing schedules.
- Monitor video performance and help identify opportunities to improve views, engagement, and audience retention.
Video Editing & Content Creation
- Edit long-form YouTube videos and short-form content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.
- Add captions, graphics, music, transitions,
and other elements that improve the viewing experience.
- Repurpose existing footage into engaging clips for different social media platforms.
- Help develop new content ideas, formats, and creative approaches.
- Work toward improving the quality, storytelling, pacing, and visual appeal of our videos.
Social Media Management
- Help manage and maintain our social media accounts.
- Write engaging captions and prepare posts for publication.
- Schedule and publish content across platforms.
- Monitor comments, messages, and audience engagement.
- Stay informed about platform updates, content trends, and emerging creative techniques.
What We're Looking For
- A working understanding of YouTube, including uploading videos, creating thumbnails, writing descriptions, and managing a channel.
- Basic video editing skills using software such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
- Familiarity with Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.
- A good eye for visuals, composition, pacing, and storytelling.
- Strong writing skills, particularly for titles, captions, and short-form content.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Someone who can take direction, incorporate feedback, and work independently.
- A proactive, resourceful attitude and a willingness to figure things out.
Bonus Skills (Not Required)
- Experience with Canva, Photoshop, or other graphic design tools.
- An understanding of YouTube Analytics and content performance.
- Experience creating content for a personal channel, business, or organization.
- Basic knowledge of filming, lighting, audio, or camera equipment.
- An interest in storytelling, digital media, and content strategy.
Who Would Do Well Here
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys creating content, not just scrolling through it.
You might be a recent graduate, a self-taught creator, or someone who has been experimenting with editing and social media and wants to turn those skills into a career.
You're curious about why some videos perform better than others. You notice the details that make content feel polished. You enjoy learning new tools and aren't afraid to try something different.
Most importantly, you're someone who takes ownership of your work and wants to keep improving.
What We Offer
- A collaborative, creative workspace in downtown Edmonton.
- Hands-on experience with YouTube and multiple social media platforms.
- Opportunities to experiment with ideas and develop your creative skills.
- Direct involvement in the content creation process, from concept to publication.
- The opportunity to grow your responsibilities and portfolio as your skills develop.
How to Apply
Please submit
- Your resume.
- A brief introduction explaining why you're interested in this role.
- Examples of videos, social media content, thumbnails, or other creative work you've produced.
Your portfolio doesn't need to be professional or extensive. Personal projects, school assignments, and independently created content are welcome.
We're more interested in what you can create and your potential to grow than an impressive list of previous job titles.
