Tier 1 Academic Learning Support Position Overview

Potentials Canada Learning Centre is seeking a caring, patient, and enthusiastic Tier 1 Academic Learning Support professional to join our team. This is an instructional tutoring position focused on delivering our established academic programs to students. You will work one-to-one and in small groups using Potentials Canada Learning Centre's proprietary reading, spelling, and math materials.

You do not need a teaching degree or formal education background to apply. We provide comprehensive training in our proprietary methods, materials, and instructional procedures, along with ongoing mentorship and feedback. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys working with children, is passionate about teaching and learning, and is willing to learn and consistently follow our established teaching methods.

This position is not a classroom assistant or Educational Assistant role. Our Tier 1 Academic Learning Support professionals are responsible for actively delivering lessons and supporting students through our academic programs.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver lessons using Potentials Canada Learning Centre's proprietary reading, spelling, and math programs.
- Follow established lesson plans, instructional sequences, and teaching procedures.
- Provide one-to-one and small-group academic instruction.
- Work with students at a variety of ages, levels, and academic abilities.
- Follow student lesson cards and session notes to ensure consistency from one session to the next.
- Provide appropriate repetition, practice, prompting, and encouragement based on each student's needs.
- Maintain a positive, safe, respectful, and encouraging learning environment.
- Monitor student performance and identify areas where additional practice or support may be needed.
- Accurately document relevant session information and student progress.
- Communicate important student concerns or observations to the appropriate team member.




- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality when working with students and families.
- Keep the learning space organized, clean, and prepared for instruction.
- Follow all Potentials Canada Learning Centre policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
- Work collaboratively with the tutoring team to provide consistent instruction and support.

Our Instructional Programs Tier 1 Academic Learning Support professionals will be trained to become proficient in Potentials Canada Learning Centre's proprietary method:

- Reading program
- Spelling program
- Math program
- Lesson cards and instructional materials
- Student progress documentation

Tutors are expected to follow the established program and instructional sequence. While tutors may develop their own rapport and teaching style, lessons must be delivered according to Potentials Canada's methods and procedures to ensure consistency for our students.

Qualifications

No formal education or teaching degree is required.We are looking for someone who:

Previous experience working with children, tutoring, education, recreation, coaching, childcare, or other youth-focused environments is an asset, but is not required. Training & Professional Development

Pay: $18.25-$19.00 per hour
