Job Overview

Playcare Early Childhood Centre is seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) to join our childcare team in Salmon Arm, British Columbia.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision and guidance of qualified Early Childhood Educators to support the implementation of childcare programs and provide a safe, inclusive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.

We are committed to supporting children's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development through meaningful play, positive interactions, and age-appropriate educational activities.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist Early Childhood Educators in implementing childcare programs and activities that promote children's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
- Engage children in activities such as storytelling, singing, arts and crafts, music, creative play, and educational games.
- Support and supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Prepare and serve snacks and assist in arranging rooms, furniture, and equipment for meals, activities, and rest periods.
- Guide and assist children in developing healthy daily habits, including eating, dressing, handwashing, toileting, and personal hygiene.




- Assist with diaper changing and other age-appropriate personal care activities.
- Observe children's behaviour, participation, and developmental progress and submit written observations to Early Childhood Educators or supervisors.
- Support children with diverse abilities and developmental needs by following individualized strategies under the guidance of qualified educators.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming childcare environment.
- Assist with sanitizing toys, educational materials, equipment, and classroom spaces.
- Perform light housekeeping and routine childcare duties as required.
- Attend staff meetings and collaborate with educators and supervisors regarding children's progress, daily activities, and care needs.
- Assist educators and supervisors in maintaining attendance records, daily activity reports, and other childcare documentation.
- Follow centre policies, health and safety procedures, and applicable British Columbia childcare licensing regulations.

Qualifications and Requirements

- Completion of secondary school or equivalent.
- Valid British Columbia Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) certification, as required for the position.
- Previous childcare or early learning experience is an asset.




- Knowledge of early childhood development and age-appropriate learning activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work patiently and respectfully with children of different ages, backgrounds, and developmental abilities.
- Ability to meet applicable criminal record screening and childcare licensing requirements.
- Commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Compensation and Benefits

- Hourly wage: $23.00
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Employment: Full time, permanent
- Vacation pay: 4% of gross wages, increasing to 6% after five consecutive years of employment, in accordance with BC employment standards
- Paid sick leave: Five days per calendar year after 90 consecutive days of employment, in accordance with BC employment standards
