Substitute teachers are an integral part of the collaborative school team. Substitute Teacher Responsibilities: Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for the students. Promote continued learning. Follow lesson plans created by the teacher. If necessary, create his/her own lesson plans in accordance with the Alberta Education Programs of Study and the absent teacher’s unit plans and/or long range plans. Ensure that the classroom is running smoothly. Clear, concise communication with the absent teacher and school principal. Adhere to the same roles and responsibilities as any other classroom teacher as defined by the Education Act and the Teaching Profession Act. Maintain confidentiality Practice professionalism with all students, staff, administration, parents and public Is aware of GYPSD policies and administrative procedures Additional responsibilities may include: Preparing educational materials. Marking assignments or classwork. Assigning classwork and homework. Recess or lunch supervision duties. Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Education; Valid Alberta Teaching License; Excellent classroom management; Ability to work in a multi-grade classroom is considered an asset. In accordance with Administrative Procedure 423, substitute teachers are also eligible for a professional growth & development annual allotment of $2,500.
