Durward Jones Barkwell, a leading public accounting firm in the Niagara, Hamilton, and Halton regions, is looking for a Tax Manager as part of its permanent, full‑time team. The successful candidate will work from St. Catharines, Hamilton, or Burlington with hybrid options after the first three months. Position Details:Salary range $113,000–$148,500. Structured bonus program and perks plan available. ResponsibilitiesLead tax planning engagements for corporate reorganisations, estate and post‑mortem planning, business succession, and M&A; transactions. Review instruction letters, prepare technical tax memos, and provide guidance to clients, legal counsel, and internal teams. Approve tax compliance filings for individuals, corporations, trusts, partnerships and related foreign reporting requirements. Conduct tax research, interpret legislation, and develop proactive recommendations for clients and leadership. Notify senior managers or partners of significant issues, present solutions, and ensure resolution. Supervise and mentor staff, provide feedback, participate in coaching programs, and support professional development. Delegate tasks and manage engagement workflow, deliverables, billings, budgets and profitability.



Collaborate with other service lines to deliver comprehensive client solutions. Participate in client meetings to discuss technical issues, planning items and recommendations. Additional responsibilities as needed to support firm objectives. QualificationsMinimum 5years of accounting experience in public accounting or other relevant experience. Minimum 2years specialising in Canadian income taxation. Chartered Skilled Accountant (CPA) designation. Completion of, or enrolment in, the CICA In‑Depth Tax Course, or completion of the M‑Tax programme. Ability to embrace and integrate emerging technologies, including AI tools, to drive innovation and efficiency in tax processes. Thorough understanding and experience with Canadian income taxation, with tax planning experience as an asset.
