SIM WENÁCW

Canada

Company descriptionSim Wenácw is an Indigenous-led business focused on creating meaningful learning opportunities that support Indigenous cultural safety, cultural humility, anti-racism, and reconciliation. Grounded in truth and guided by relationship, our work brings together Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, and lived experiences to support organizations and communities in building greater understanding, strengthening relationships, and creating meaningful change. We approach this work with care, creativity, and a commitment to learning and growing together.

About the roleAs Sim Wenácw continues to grow, we're seeking someone to join the team to support with communications and administrative tasks that come with running a business.

Right now, our needs are fairly minimal, particularly staying on top of emails, follow up, and getting our ideas out to the community..

Naomi and Amy often have ideas for media posts, reflections they want to share, or things they would like to create, but finding the time to actually pull everything together can be challenging.

We're hoping to find someone who enjoys being creative, is fairly organized, and can help keep things moving. We're not looking for someone to take over our communications or develop an entire social media strategy. We're really looking for someone who can work alongside Naomi and Amy, help with some of the smaller things, and bring their own creativity into the work.

What the role could involveEmail and correspondence

Monitoring e-mails, keeping up with the conversations and opportunities coming our way.

This could include

- Monitoring general email inbox.
- Responding to straightforward emails or drafting responses for Naomi and Amy to review.
- Flagging messages that need attention.
- Following up with Naomi and Amy to ensure priorities are complete..
- Helping coordinate meetings or conversations when needed.
- Keeping track of inquiries, potential partnerships, and opportunities.

Social media, writing and Canva This is an area where Naomi and Amy have lots of ideas, we are searching for someone to support in creating social media content. We are looking for someone who can take starting points and help turn them into something we can share.

This could include

- Listening to voice notes from Naomi and Amy and turning those thoughts into draft social media posts.
- Taking rough ideas, notes, conversations, or unfinished drafts and helping organize them into something that flows.
- Helping edit and polish writing while keeping Naomi and Amy's individual voices and the overall voice of Sim Wenácw.
- Creating simple graphics and social media content in Canva.
- Preparing posts for LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.

- Developing a few reusable Canva templates that reflect Sim Wenácw.
- Helping schedule posts once they've been reviewed and approved.
- Taking content from workshops, presentations, or other work and identifying ways it could be shared through social media.
- Bringing forward creative ideas for how we could share our work and connect with people.

The goal isn't to have someone writing everything from scratch or deciding what Sim Wenácw should be talking about. Naomi and Amy would continue to guide the messaging and direction of the content. We're looking for someone who can help take those ideas, shape them into something that reads well, and get them ready to share.

We also don't want social media to become something we're posting to just for the sake of posting. We want to be thoughtful, intentional, and connected to the work we're doing.

Organization and general support

We would also appreciate having someone who can help us stay on top of the little things.

This might include

- Keeping a simple list of things we need to follow up on.
- Reminding Naomi and Amy about outstanding emails or commitments.
- Helping organize shared documents, resources, and communications materials.
- Making small updates to promotional materials.
- Supporting the occasional project, workshop, or event when something is coming up.
- Helping track potential opportunities and connections.
- Checking in about what needs to be prioritized.

Nothing overly complicated. We just want someone who can help keep things organized without creating a whole bunch of additional processes. How we'd work togetherWe want this to be a flexible and collaborative role.

We recognize that Sim Wenácw is still growing, and some weeks there might be more to do than others. We'd work together to figure out what needs attention and what makes sense within the hours available.

Naomi and Amy would provide direction, ideas, and content, but we'd also welcome someone bringing their own suggestions and creativity into the work.

We don't want someone to feel like they have to ask permission to make every small adjustment. At the same time, anything involving our relationships, cultural content, business commitments, or public messaging would need to be reviewed before being shared.

Because of the nature of our work,

it's key that anyone supporting us understands the importance of confidentiality, respecting Indigenous knowledge and protocols, and being thoughtful about how we communicate and maintain relationships.

We'd likely use a shared task list, Canva, and email to keep things organized, with a quick check-in each week to make sure everyone knows what needs attention.

Hours and compensationFor now, we're thinking of starting with a fairly small commitment, as we aren't overly busy yet.

- Hours: Approximately 2–3 hours per week
- Compensation: 25–30 per hour, depending on experience
- Location: Remote and flexible
- Initial arrangement: Three-month paid trial, with an opportunity to review how things are going

This would work out to approximately 217–390 per month, depending on the hours worked and hourly rate. Some weeks might only require a couple of hours, while others could involve a bit more support depending on what we have happening. Any additional hours would be discussed ahead of time.

We'd be open to increasing the hours and responsibilities down the road as Sim Wenácw continues to grow, but we don't want to promise something we can't sustain right now.

Who we think would be a good fitWe're not necessarily looking for someone with a formal background in communications or marketing.

We're more interested in someone who:

- Is organized and good at following through on things.
- Enjoys writing, editing, or being creative.
- Can take someone else's ideas and help bring them together without losing the original meaning or voice.
- Is comfortable using Canva or interested in learning.
- Can work independently and take initiative.
- Communicates well and takes initiative to remind Naomi and Amy when something has been missed.
- Understands the importance of relationships and being thoughtful in how we engage with people.
- Is interested in the work Sim Wenácw is doing and wants to contribute to it.

What we're hoping forMore than anything, we're hoping to have a little additional support so Naomi and Amy can spend more of their time on the work they're passionate about. We're not expecting someone to come in and completely change how Sim Wenácw operates. We want to start small, figure out what works, and build from there.

Ideally, this would be an opportunity for someone to earn a bit of additional income, contribute their skills and creativity, and grow alongside Sim Wenácw as the business develops.

We also recognize that relationships are an important part of how we work, and we'd like this to feel like a mutually supportive arrangement where everyone's time, contributions, and ideas are valued. Please reach out to [email protected] if you have any questions.
