Join us to improve quality of life while protecting the workplace and promoting sustainability.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced PLC Programmer to join our water treatment design and fabrication team. The PLC Programmer develops, tests, commissions, and supports PLC-based control systems, with related HMI and SCADA integration, for custom water and wastewater treatment equipment. Working closely with electrical engineering, process engineering, production, project management, clients, and external stakeholders, this role translates P&IDs;, control narratives, I/O lists, and electrical schematics into reliable, maintainable control logic that meets project, safety, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, test, document, and maintain PLC programs using IEC 61131-3 languages, including ladder logic, structured text, function block, and sequential function chart as appropriate.
Program and integrate PLC-based control systems using platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, SCADAPack, AutomationDirect, Siemens, and Omron.
Translate P&IDs;, control narratives, electrical schematics, and I/O lists into functional control logic, sequences, interlocks, alarms, and permissives.
Configure and validate digital and analog I/O, instrumentation, motor controls, VFDs, remote I/O, and related field devices.
Develop and integrate HMI and SCADA interfaces, including graphics, setpoints, alarms, trends, reports, and user access.
Configure and troubleshoot industrial networks and communication protocols, including EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, serial communications, and TCP/IP networking.
Perform code reviews, simulation, bench testing, I/O checkout,
factory acceptance testing, site commissioning, and field troubleshooting.
Diagnose PLC, HMI, communications, instrumentation, and process-control issues and implement safe, effective corrections.
Work on on-site commissioning activities, including system start-up, I/O verification, functional testing, operator training, troubleshooting, and coordination with clients, contractors, and project teams.
Maintain program backups, revision history, source-code comments, functional descriptions, test records, and commissioning documentation.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in electrical engineering technology, automation, controls, mechatronics, computer engineering, or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Demonstrated hands-on experience developing, testing, and commissioning PLC programs for industrial, municipal, manufacturing, or process-control applications.
Proficiency with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs and Studio 5000 or RSLogix is preferred;
experience with SCADAPack, AutomationDirect, Siemens, or Omron is an asset.
Strong working knowledge of IEC 61131-3 programming languages, especially ladder logic and structured text.
Experience configuring PLC hardware, remote I/O, analog and digital signals, instrumentation, motor controls, and VFDs.
Experience with industrial communications and network troubleshooting, including EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, serial communications, and TCP/IP.
Ability to interpret P&IDs;, electrical drawings, control schematics, I/O lists, and control narratives.
Experience integrating PLC systems with HMI and SCADA applications and conducting factory and site acceptance testing.
Strong troubleshooting, documentation, organization, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines. Site travel may be required for commissioning and service support.
Continuous learning and professional development
