The Opportunity:As part of Maple Leaf Foods’ manufacturing team, the 3rd Class Engineer will contribute to the efficient operation of the Central Utilities Plant (CUP). The incumbent will operate engineering systems safely and efficiently in compliance with applicable Acts, Codes, Regulations, and Standards. Systems include water (potable, sanitary, storm, etc.), compressed air, steam and ammonia (NH3) refrigeration, boilers, and compressors.Responsibilities:Support development of SOPs for equipment start‑up and generate PM programs for installed equipment.Maintain, monitor, test, and log all steam generating requirements by operation code and establish equipment operating parameters.Complete routine plant inspections of ammonia‑refrigeration, boilers, and compressors and ensure all systems operate safely.Interface with contractual and inspection departments for corrective or legal requirements.Conduct work requests and apply corrective measures timely using the computerized maintenance system (including SAP).Follow all Health & Safety, Food Safety, HACCP, WHMIS, and MSDS policies or procedures.Participate in machinery rebuilds, installations, and repairs.Demonstrate full commitment to the Global Standard for Food Safety and continual improvement of food safety and quality management.Operate and maintain building systems and equipment (HVAC, cooling towers, emergency diesel generator, gas, steam, water, air system, plumbing, and electrical).Maintain auxiliary equipment per governing standards, codes,



and regulations.Monitor and control building operations through the Siemens Building Automation system.Perform preventative maintenance and regular repairs with minimal supervision.Adjust thermostats, valves, dampers, etc., to maintain desired conditions.Perform mechanical equipment maintenance per the Preventative Maintenance Program (belt adjustments, lubrication, filter changes, etc.).Oversee subordinate employees, contractors, and service personnel.Assist with other duties related to the position as assigned.Qualifications:Valid certificate of qualification as a 3rd Class Operating (Stationary) Engineer.Complement of hand tools.Knowledge of environmental and energy tracking and reporting.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.Knowledge of steam, compressed air, hot water, power boilers, and refrigeration systems.Willingness to obtain IMT.Experience with ammonia systems.Working knowledge of computer software and maintenance systems such as SAP.Self‑managed with ability to set priorities among conflicting demands.Robust written and verbal communication skills.Team‑oriented mindset.Preference for candidates with dual tickets – G1, G2, millwright, electrician, instrumentation.Base Salary: $38.49/hourHours of work: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm (schedules may vary for sickness and emergencies).Maple Leaf Foods is an equal opportunity employer.
