It is anticipated that this role will be 100% remote. Work must be done from within Canada at all times due to network and data security policies. Standard Hours of work are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time, Monday through Friday excluding observed holidays.PROJECT OVERVIEW Project Name: Digital Regulatory Assurance SystemModernization initiatives across the Government of Alberta are fundamentally changing how ministry users collect, manage, analyze, and use data as legacy systems are transformed into modern Data Management and Geospatial Platforms. This shift requires dedicated analytical capacity to ensure that the value of modernized data assets is fully realized.DRAS is a Government of Alberta regulatory transformation initiative led by Workplace and Protected Areas (EPA) to modernize, digitize, and streamline environmental and natural resource regulatory processes. DRAS supports the full regulatory lifecycle, from application and authorization to monitoring, compliance, remediation, and closure through a single, consolidated digital platform.The increasing scale of DRAS data creates a strong and ongoing need for dedicated business intelligence and analytics capability to support operational monitoring, compliance oversight, performance measurement, and strategic decision-making.DESCRIPTION OF SERVICESDesign and develop complex dashboards, scorecards, and visual analytics using Power BI.Design, develop,



and maintain data models and visualizations using Microsoft Power BI and Azure-based data platforms.Data modeling & ETL development.Create optimized, reusable data models using DAX and Power Query M for enterprise‑wide reporting.Build interactive dashboards and reports tailored to business needs using Microsoft Power BI.Integrate Power BI with various Microsoft Azure data sources and on‑premises databases.Work closely with business users, data architects and data engineers to manage data pipelines, staging areas, and semantic models.Work with business units to gather reporting requirements and KPIs.Translate ambiguous business questions into concrete BI solutions.Present insights and findings in explicit, executive‑friendly formats.Provide end‑user training and support to ensure adoption of BI tools.Maintain and publish datasets and dashboards in Power BI Service with scheduled refreshes and alerts.Optimize dashboards and reports for performance.Implement security and user access controls within Power BI.Implement incremental data refresh, row‑level security (RLS), and performance tuning strategies in Power BI.Conduct deep‑drive analytics to uncover trends, anomalies, and business opportunities.Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security compliance across all reporting assets.Integrate AI capabilities to augment analytical processes by automating data exploration, identifying trends and anomalies, and generating insights.Other duties as needed.MANDATORY SKILLSPost‑secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Computer Science or related field of study.Direct hands‑on experience translating business requirements into analytical solutions and communicating findings effectively to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders to deliver end‑to‑end BI solutions (5 years+).Direct hands‑on experience designing, developing,



and optimizing advanced Power BI solutions that transform regulated and complex datasets into actionable insights for policy, operations and executive reporting (5 years+).Direct hands‑on experience in designing solutions to test, monitor, and audit data accuracy and completeness, both inside Power BI models and during upstream data preparation (4 years+).Direct hands‑on experience with a comprehensive set of visualization techniques and features that demonstrate both technical depth and storytelling skill using Power BI (4 years+).Experience developing complex measures, calculated columns, advanced time intelligence using DAX in Power BI (5 years+).Experience implementing Power BI Service features such as data refresh, workspaces and row‑level security (RLS) (4 years+).Direct hands‑on experience analyzing large complex datasets to perform trend analysis, predictive analytics, and forecasting using Power BI and Azure analytics tools (5 years+).Experience presenting and storytelling to effectively communicate data‑driven insights to executives and business users within a government organization (4 years+).Direct hands‑on experience in SQL for data transformations querying, and analytical processing in large scale environments (5 years+).DESIRABLE / NICE TO HAVE SKILLSDirect experience using source code control (such as GitHub) approaches for Power BI artifacts (1 year+).Experience leveraging AI‑assisted tools (e.G., Copilot in Power BI/Fabric) to accelerate data transformation, DAX generation, and report authoring; proven ability tointegrate Power BI’s native AI capabilities such as AI Insights, Key Influencers, and automated anomaly detection to deliver proactive business insights (1 year+).Experience with Databricks Medallion Architecture (Bronze–Silver–Gold) and how Gold layer data products support enterprise reporting and analytics (1 year+).Experience working with Government of Alberta datasets particularly Environmental Data (Water Licensing, Ambient Water monitoring), Transportation (Heavy permit loads) and Consumer licensing (1 year+).Proven experience in building and delivering data products using Synapse Analytics including development of curated dataset and Power BI integration (3 years+).#J-18808-Ljbffr
