About The RoleAs a Claims Consultant, Surety, Central and Western Regions, you will work with a high‑performing team of Specialty Lines Claims professionals responsible for the management and handling of Surety claims such as Contract Surety, Commercial Surety, Developer Surety and Home Warranty in a team environment. Your experience and drive for excellence will help you work collaboratively and deliver coaching for junior staff, development and engagement to strengthen team connections and contribute to maintaining Intact's reputation for claims handling excellence. You will report to the Surety Claims Manager and be part of the National Surety Claims Department.What You'll DoOversee and handle complex claims on surety bonds, including assessing coverage, liability, quantum, and recovery of loss activities and complete bonded obligations.Maintain relationships with Surety Underwriting and provide client support on moderately complex claims‑related matters.Work closely with your Manager to develop and recommend strategies in file handling and resolution of claims.Provide coaching to file handlers working on specific exposure related to a complex default.Follow industry trends and collaborate with the Management team to develop proactive strategies.Navigate and determine strategies relating to insolvencies and manage Trustee/Receivers as they arise.Demonstrate strong negotiating and problem‑solving skills and follow through to execution and resolution of a claim.Document claim strategy and settlements within established authorization levels.Manage internal and external resources such as legal counsel and consultants retained for claims handling and apply expense mitigation.Assist management with driving changes as needed and help strategize initiatives for the department.Maintain cooperative and transparent communication with all stakeholders associated with the Surety line of business.What You Bring To The TableLegal degree is required.Minimum of 5 years of surety claim experience or 3-6 years experience in construction and contract law.Management, coaching and mentoring experience is an asset.Self‑starter capable of working independently under minimal supervision.Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills with attention to detail.Strong negotiation skills.Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.Flexibility with travel as required.BenefitsSalary Range: 118,700 - 145,100 annually (based on a 35‑hour workweek).Annual Bonus Target: Based on the base salary with a potential payout up to double the target, subject to personal and company performance.Employee Share Purchase Plan (ESPP): Intact matches 50% of net shares.Pension offerings provide flexibility and long‑term security, including a defined benefit pension plan that may guarantee income for life.Flexible work arrangements and a hybrid work model.Possibility to purchase up to 5 extra days off per year.Extra benefits support physical and mental wellbeing, including telemedicine and Wellness account.Equal Opportunity EmployerWe are an equal‑opportunity employer.
