Halliwell is seeking a technically skilled, analytical, and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team of experts.
In this role, you will investigate electrical system failures, assess damage to electrical equipment and infrastructure, evaluate the cause and extent of electrical losses, and develop technically sound repair, restoration, and replacement recommendations.
Working collaboratively with other engineering and technical professionals, you will provide objective engineering assessments, prepare detailed technical reports, and help clients understand complex electrical issues and make informed decisions.
The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering knowledge with investigative thinking, sound technical judgment, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Electrical Failure Analysis and Damage Assessment
- Investigate electrical equipment failures, system malfunctions, and damage affecting electrical installations and infrastructure.
- Conduct site inspections, technical evaluations, and forensic investigations to determine the nature, extent, and potential causes of electrical failures.
- Analyze available evidence, including electrical drawings, maintenance records, equipment specifications, photographs, test results, and incident reports.
- Identify potential failure mechanisms and distinguish between observed damage, contributing factors, and probable root causes.
- Evaluate the condition, functionality, and operational reliability of damaged electrical equipment and systems.
Technical Evaluations and Engineering Reporting
- Prepare clear, comprehensive, and objective engineering reports documenting findings, technical analyses, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Provide unbiased technical opinions supported by documented evidence, engineering principles, and applicable industry standards.
- Explain complex electrical failures and technical findings in a clear, practical manner to clients, insurers, property owners, legal professionals, and other stakeholders, as applicable.
- Review technical documentation, contractor assessments, repair proposals, and equipment replacement recommendations.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, investigations, calculations,
and supporting evidence.
Repair, Replacement, and Recovery Strategies
- Assess the feasibility, safety, and technical suitability of repairing, restoring, or replacing damaged electrical systems and equipment.
- Develop practical repair and replacement strategies that balance technical requirements, reliability, safety, and cost considerations.
- Review repair scopes, material specifications, labor estimates, and contractor quotations for technical completeness and reasonableness.
- Provide cost estimates and comparative evaluations of repair and replacement options, identifying key assumptions and potential risks.
- Recommend solutions that support protected restoration, minimize unnecessary expenditure, and help clients return affected systems to functional operation.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration and Client Support
- Collaborate with engineers and technical specialists from other disciplines to deliver integrated assessments of complex damage and failures.
- Coordinate site visits, inspections, technical investigations, and information gathering.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders through reports, presentations, and technical discussions.
- Support project planning and the development of actionable recovery plans based on investigation findings.
- Maintain professional independence, technical integrity, confidentiality, and a commitment to evidence-based conclusions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Relevant experience in electrical engineering, technical consulting, failure analysis, forensic engineering, electrical inspections, or equipment assessment.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, power distribution, electrical equipment, controls, and protection systems.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings,
equipment specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Experience conducting technical investigations, evaluating equipment condition, identifying failure mechanisms, or developing repair and replacement recommendations.
- Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to prepare structured, evidence-based engineering reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering analysis or design software.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical matters to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, work independently, and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
SKILLS:
- Experience in forensic engineering, insurance-related investigations, property damage assessments, or technical consulting.
- Experience evaluating electrical damage arising from equipment breakdown, power disturbances, overheating, fire, water intrusion, or other failure events.
- Familiarity with repair and replacement cost assessments, contractor estimates, and restoration scopes of work.
- Relevant professional engineering registration or licensure, where applicable.
- Experience preparing technical opinions or reports for insurance, dispute resolution, or legal proceedings, where relevant.
- Willingness to travel to client sites and conduct field inspections as required.
Key Attributes:
- Investigative thinking: The ability to examine evidence, question assumptions, and identify credible explanations for complex failures.
- Technical integrity: A commitment to objective, independent, and evidence-based evaluations.
- Commercial awareness: The ability to assess repair and replacement options with consideration for cost, practicality, and long-term reliability.
- Clear communication: The ability to translate complex engineering findings into understandable, actionable recommendations.
- Collaborative expertise: A willingness to work across disciplines and contribute to well-rounded technical assessments.
- Client-focused problem-solving: A commitment to helping clients move from uncertainty and damage toward informed decisions and functional recovery.
