Forward Deployed Engineer — AI Agents
Toronto, Ontario · In person · Full time
Build the integrations that turn AI agents into systems customers can rely on.
Expertise AI builds AI agents for enterprise sales and customer support across voice and chat. We are hiring a hands-on engineer who can understand a customer's workflow, write the code that connects their systems, and stay with the deployment until it works in production.
You will own a defined customer workstream from discovery through implementation, testing, rollout and improvement. We are primarily looking for a strong mid-level engineer and will consider exceptional individual contributors at other levels. Compensation and scope are flexible based on demonstrated ability.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Turn customer working sessions into a technical plan with clear dependencies and acceptance criteria.
- Build and debug integrations using APIs, webhooks, authentication, permissions and data mapping.
- Connect agents to business systems and knowledge, including CRM, Microsoft 365 and SharePoint, and deploy useful voice and chat workflows.
- Diagnose failures across code, configuration, permissions, retrieval, model behaviour and external systems. Reproduce the problem and verify the fix.
- Build realistic evaluation cases, regression checks and monitoring for answers, actions, CRM updates and human handoffs.
- Review deployment quality and customer results proactively, with evidence and transparent next steps.
- Turn repeated deployment work into reusable connectors, test fixtures, runbooks and product improvements.
IN YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
Own a customer workstream, deliver a working end-to-end workflow with realistic acceptance tests, establish a regular quality review, and leave behind a runbook and something the next deployment can reuse.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and evidence of personally shipping systems that real people use.
- Confidence writing, testing and debugging production code, learning unfamiliar APIs, and tracing problems across systems.
- Clear technical judgment: you can explain your contribution, design decisions, failure modes and trade-offs.
- Ownership after launch, including verifying fixes and helping customers adopt what you deliver.
- Clear communication with technical and business stakeholders and an interest in working directly with customers.
- Ability to work in person in Toronto and join customer-site working sessions.
Experience with CRM or Microsoft integrations, AI evaluation and retrieval, or voice/contact-centre systems is useful. You do not need to know every vendor. Strong engineering projects, research, design-team work and demanding academic work are welcome evidence of ability.
HOW TO APPLY
Apply with your résumé and a brief example of software or an integration you personally shipped: the workflow, your contribution, a difficult problem you solved and the result. Include a code sample, demo or technical write-up where useful; sanitized examples are welcome.
Please also include your unofficial academic record and, if you have completed co-op terms, your Co-op Work History with employer ratings and available written supervisor feedback or end-of-term evaluations. Share only material you are permitted to disclose and redact confidential employer or client information. If records are unavailable or you have no co-op history, briefly state this; comparable internship or employment feedback is welcome.
Supporting materials can be combined with your résumé in one PDF.
Our assessment uses a small practical integration scenario. AI coding tools are allowed. We assess decomposition, implementation, debugging, verification and communication.
Compensation is flexible based on engineering ability, experience and scope. We are happy to discuss expectations early.
