Who We Are
Roo & You isn’t just a play couch company. We’re a Canadian, women-owned and family-run brand built around imagination, connection and creating space for kids to just be kids.
We design modular play couches, foam furniture and accessories that encourage imaginative, active play while fitting beautifully into family homes. From The Joey® Play Couch to our growing collection of compatible play pieces, everything we create starts with one simple belief: play matters.
What began as an idea at home has grown into an established e-commerce brand serving families across Canada and the United States, supported by an incredibly engaged community of parents and families.
The Chance
We are looking for a practical, analytical and highly organized Manager, Finance and Operations who can own the day-to-day financial processes while keeping purchasing and inventory operations running smoothly. You are comfortable moving between financial statements, Shopify sales data, supplier purchase orders and warehouse inventory reports. You ask smart questions, build reliable processes and turn numbers into decisions that help a growing e-commerce business scale.
You bring sound judgment, integrity and a hands-on approach. You communicate clearly, build trust across teams and enjoy improving how things work.
What You Will Do
Finance, accounting and e-commerce reporting
- Own the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, bank and credit card reconciliations, accruals, payroll coordination and month-end close.
- Reconcile Shopify orders, sales, discounts, returns, refunds, gift cards, sales taxes and payment processor settlements to accounting records; investigate discrepancies and maintain reliable revenue reporting.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting, including revenue, COGS, gross margin, operating expenses, cash flow and budget-to-actual results.
- Analyze e-commerce performance by product or SKU, channel and promotion, including contribution margins, fulfillment and shipping costs, payment processing fees and returns.
- Maintain accurate inventory accounting and COGS recognition; reconcile inventory subledgers, warehouse records and the general ledger.
- Calculate and allocate landed costs—including inbound freight, customs duties, brokerage and other applicable import charges—to inventory receipts and SKUs using consistent, documented methodologies.
- Support annual budgets, rolling forecasts, cash flow planning and working capital analysis, with particular attention to inventory purchases and seasonality.
- Coordinate with external accountants and tax advisors on year-end reporting, corporate tax filings, GST/HST and other applicable sales tax compliance.
Inventory management
- Oversee inventory visibility, accuracy and valuation across warehouses and sales channels, including in-transit inventory.
- Coordinate inventory reconciliations, cycle counts and variance investigations with third-party logistics and warehouse partners.
- Monitor stock levels, sell-through, inventory turns, aging and stockout risk; recommend replenishment or corrective action.
- Partner with sales, marketing and operations on demand forecasts, seasonal launches, promotions and inventory availability.
- Identify slow-moving, damaged or obsolete inventory and support appropriate reserves, write-offs and disposition decisions.
Purchasing and operational coordination
- Manage purchase order creation, approvals, tracking and reconciliation against supplier invoices and receipts.
- Coordinate with suppliers and logistics partners on production schedules, lead times, inbound shipments and delivery exceptions.
- Build purchasing plans informed by demand forecasts, available stock, lead times, cash requirements and inventory targets.
- Monitor purchase commitments, supplier costs,
freight and import expenses; flag cost changes and opportunities to improve margins.
- Collaborate with customer service, fulfillment, marketing and leadership to resolve operational issues affecting orders, stock and customer experience.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce or a related field; CPA designation or progress toward one is an asset.
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance or business operations, ideally within a product-based e-commerce or consumer goods business.
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting, COGS, landed cost allocation, purchasing and financial controls.
- Experience with Shopify, accounting software and Excel or Google Sheets; familiarity with inventory management, ERP or 3PL systems is an asset.
- Ability to interpret financial and operational data, identify issues and communicate practical recommendations to leadership.
- Excellent attention to detail, judgment, integrity and ability to prioritize independently in a fast-moving environment.
- Collaborative communication style and confidence working with suppliers, external partners and cross-functional teams.
