Electronics Assembly Technician — Contract
Vaughan, Ontario · In Person · Contract · $25–$40/hr
About the Role
We are a technology startup based in Vaughan building proprietary outdoor camera systems for deployment across Canada and the United States. We are looking for a hands-on electronics assembly technician to join us on a contract basis to assemble our first prototype units.
Each camera unit contains a high-performance compute module, camera sensor, 5GHz wireless radio card, GPS timing module, and a PoE power circuit — all integrated into a custom machined weatherproof aluminium housing rated for year-round outdoor operation. You will work from a detailed technical specification document and assemble these units to a defined acceptance test standard.
This is precise, careful bench work. We are a small startup building something recent and we need someone who takes pride in doing it right.
What You Will Do
- Assemble electronic components into a custom machined aluminium housing to a provided technical specification
- Install and connect compute module, camera sensor module, wireless radio card, GPS module, secure element, and PoE power circuit
- Route and terminate internal cabling including MMCX RF pigtails, ribbon cables, and power wiring
- Apply conformal coating to assembled boards
- Install and torque weatherproof cable glands and O-ring gaskets to IP67 specification
- Assist with firmware loading and run acceptance tests on completed units
- Document any deviations from the specification and flag them to the engineering team
What We Are Looking For
Required
- Minimum 1 to 2 years hands-on electronics assembly experience
- Must have your own tools — soldering station, ESD mat and wrist strap, hand tools, precision screwdrivers, multimeter
- Comfortable working with small connectors — MMCX, u.FL, JST, ribbon cables
- ESD awareness and proper grounding discipline
- Ability to read a wiring diagram and component specification sheet
- Steady hands and strong attention to detail
Nice to Have
- Experience with single board computers such as Jetson, Raspberry Pi, or similar
- M.2, miniPCIe, or camera module assembly experience
- Conformal coating application experience
- Weatherproof or IP-rated enclosure assembly
- Basic Linux command line familiarity
No degree required. A portfolio of hands-on work or demonstrated experience is more important to us than credentials.
Contract Details
- First contract: 4 prototype units — approximately 2 to 3 weeks of work
- Strong performance leads directly to a follow-on contract for a 40-unit production run
- Pay: $25 to $40 CAD per hour depending on experience
- Location: Vaughan, Ontario — in person at our workshop
- Start: As soon as possible
How to Apply
Send your resume and a brief note about your electronics assembly experience to [your email]. Include a photo or description of something you have previously built or repaired. Applications without this will not be considered.
We are a startup moving fast. If this sounds like you, reach out today.
Pay: $25.00-$40.00 per hour
