Surge Automation is a Peace Region-based business providing automation solutions and support to clients across a range of industries, including oil and gas, water and wastewater, and mining. The Opportunity

We’re looking for an automation qualified to join our team and support a range of industrial projects and day-to-day operations. This role combines control system programming, field commissioning, and technical support, with guidance from an experienced and supportive team. Previous PLC, HMI, or SCADA programming experience is not required, we’re prepared to train the right person who brings the right attitude, aptitude, and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

- Program, troubleshoot, and support PLCs and HMIs, particularly Allen-Bradley systems using Studio 5000.
- Commission and test control systems onsite and assist with system startup.
- Integrate and support SCADA platforms, including FactoryTalk and Yokogawa CI SCADA.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, electrical, and project personnel.
- Prepare control logic documentation and test plans, and assist with factory and site acceptance testing.
- Investigate and resolve operational issues remotely and in the field.

Qualifications

Applicants should have one of the following:

- Red Seal journeyperson certification in electrical or instrumentation, with experience in oil and gas or another process-related industry; or
- A diploma or degree in computer science.

Our customers rely on us to help keep critical equipment and operations running. That means responding to urgent issues outside normal working hours, including evenings or weekends. This responsibility is an important part of the role, and we value people who communicate well, use good judgment, and work together to support customers when it matters.

In return, we aim to provide flexibility built on trust, accountability, and reliable customer service. Once fully trained and able to work independently, team members may split their time between home and the office, depending on project requirements and customer needs. There is also flexibility to adjust daily hours around personal and family commitments when scheduled work and customer responsibilities are covered.
