Our client is a full-service mechanical contractor specialising in HVAC, plumbing, design/build, and preventative maintenance services across Canada. As the business continues to grow, they are looking for a driven, entrepreneurial Business Development Manager to help expand their presence in Vancouver and BC market.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys building relationships from the ground up, creating new opportunities, and turning conversations into long-term commercial partnerships. You will play a key role in growing the local business, developing new client relationships, and identifying opportunities across commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential markets.
If you thrive on the challenge of winning new business, enjoy being out in the market, and take ownership of your results, this could be an excellent opportunity to make an impact.
The Role
You will take ownership of business development activities across the Vancouver market, focusing on building a strong pipeline of current opportunities and developing lasting client relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
- New Business Development: Proactively identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities across the Vancouver market.
- Relationship Building: Establish and develop relationships with prospective clients, decision-makers, contractors, property managers, and other key industry contacts.
- Market Development: Build the company's local presence through networking, direct outreach, in-person meetings, and proactive business development.
- Pipeline Management: Identify prospective accounts, maintain a healthy sales pipeline,
and progress opportunities from initial contact through to close.
- Opportunity Identification: Understand client needs and identify opportunities for HVAC, plumbing, design/build, and preventative maintenance services.
- Account Growth: Develop long-term partnerships that generate repeat business, referrals, and sustainable revenue growth.
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with the wider team to develop opportunities, coordinate proposals, and deliver a strong client experience.
- Commercial Focus: Take ownership of business development targets and contribute directly to the continued growth of the Vancouver operation.
What We're Looking For
We are more interested in your mindset, drive, and ability to build relationships than whether you have spent your entire career in the mechanical industry.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Entrepreneurial: Someone who takes ownership, spots opportunities, and is comfortable creating their own path to success.
- Relationship-Driven: A natural networker who can build trust, open doors, and develop lasting commercial relationships.
- Resilient: Comfortable with rejection and persistent enough to keep going when opportunities do not immediately convert.
- Self-Motivated: Someone who takes initiative, creates opportunities,
and does not need to be pushed to make the next call or arrange the next meeting.
- Coachable: Open to feedback, eager to learn, and motivated to continually improve.
- Commercially Minded: Able to recognise opportunities, understand client needs, and translate relationships into business results.
You will ideally bring experience in business development, sales, account management, or a similar commercially focused role. Experience in mechanical contracting, HVAC, plumbing, technical services, or facilities-related industries would be beneficial, but it is not essential.
Candidates from other service-based industries, including commercial cleaning, security, waste management, and related B2B services, are also encouraged to apply. Experience in these sectors can provide a strong foundation for success in a relationship-driven business development role.
An athletic or competitive background could also be a great fit. The ability to handle setbacks, stay disciplined, respond to challenges, and keep pushing forward is just as valuable as industry knowledge.
Interested?
If you are a relationship builder who enjoys winning new business, thrives on a challenge, and wants to play a meaningful role in growing a business in Vancouver, we would welcome a conversation.
Industry experience is helpful, but drive, resilience, and the ability to build relationships are what matter most.
If you are or someone you know could be a good fit for this role, please apply through LinkedIn or send me an email/message with your CV and we can have a conversation!
