Electronics Manufacturing Consultant
Per Vices Corporation is seeking an experienced Electronics Manufacturing Consultant to review, improve, and help implement our manufacturing processes for complex, high-value electronic products.
This is a hands-on consulting engagement intended for someone with significant practical experience in electronics manufacturing. We are looking for an individual who can assess how we currently operate, identify meaningful gaps against industry best practices, and help us establish a practical, measurable, and scalable manufacturing operating system.
About the Role
Per Vices designs and manufactures advanced electronic products involving complex PCBs, RF electronics, FPGA-based hardware, mechanical assemblies, and supporting software.
Our manufacturing model includes
- Procurement of electronic components, bare PCBs, and mechanical components
- Outsourced PCB assembly
- Internal incoming and visual inspection
- Internal PCB bring-up and testing
- Internal software and system-level testing
- Final product assembly and verification in-house
- Medium-volume, high-value, technically complex products
The successful consultant will review the full manufacturing lifecycle and help determine how our processes should operate based on appropriate electronics manufacturing practices—not simply document our existing processes. Key Responsibilities The consultant will work with our engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, and management teams to:
- Assess our existing manufacturing processes, controls, documentation, and tools
- Identify gaps, risks, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies
- Review the manufacturing lifecycle from purchasing and PCB fabrication through PCB assembly, inspection, bring-up, testing, final assembly, and shipment
- Establish appropriate manufacturing gates and quality checks between production stages
- Improve tracking and management of failures, rework, scrap, and yield
- Develop practical manufacturing metrics and management reporting
- Review supplier management and supplier quality processes
- Improve manufacturing traceability and record keeping
- Define clear roles, responsibilities, ownership, approvals, and handoffs
- Develop or improve manufacturing forms, checklists, work instructions, and procedures
- Identify areas that rely too heavily on individual knowledge and establish appropriate documentation and training
- Develop a practical manufacturing training program
- Review how our existing manufacturing tools support the required processes and identify gaps
- Help implement the highest-priority improvements during the engagement
The consultant should be comfortable translating manufacturing requirements into ERP/MRP/manufacturing system workflows and evaluate existing tooling.
Required Experience
We are specifically looking for someone with substantial hands-on experience manufacturing complex electronic products.
The ideal candidate will have experience with many or all of the following:
- Electronics manufacturing operations
- PCB fabrication and PCB assembly processes
- Contract manufacturers and external PCB assembly
- Incoming inspection and quality control
- PCB visual inspection
- PCB bring-up and functional testing
- Electronics assembly and final system integration
- Manufacturing process development
- Manufacturing quality gates and acceptance criteria
- Yield, failure, rework, and scrap management
- Root cause and corrective action processes
- Supplier quality and supplier performance management
- Production planning and manufacturing scheduling
- Manufacturing traceability and record keeping
- Manufacturing KPIs and reporting
- Work instructions, SOPs, checklists, and manufacturing documentation
- Training manufacturing and purchasing personnel
- ERP, MRP, inventory, or manufacturing management systems
Experience in medium-volume, high-mix, high-value electronics manufacturing is particularly relevant.
What We Are Looking For
This role requires someone who can distinguish between processes that genuinely improve quality and manufacturing performance and unnecessary bureaucracy.
We are not looking for someone to simply apply the processes of a large contract manufacturer to our organization.
The successful consultant should be able to understand our products, production volumes, risks, and existing capabilities and recommend a manufacturing system appropriate for our setting.
You should be comfortable both identifying what needs to change and working with our team to implement those changes.
Expected Engagement The initial engagement is expected to be approximately 90 days,
with the work progressing through three general stages:
Current-State Assessment
Review our existing manufacturing operation against appropriate electronics manufacturing practices and identify the most important gaps, risks, and opportunities.
Target Manufacturing Model
Define how our manufacturing processes should operate, including processes, quality gates, records, responsibilities, reporting, metrics, supplier management, and training requirements.
Implementation and Tool Integration
Map the improved processes into our existing manufacturing systems, implement high-priority improvements where practical, and identify any remaining system or tooling gaps.
By the end of the engagement, we expect to have a clearly defined and documented manufacturing operating system that our team can consistently follow, measure, train, and improve.
Qualifications
Candidates should have significant skilled experience in electronics manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, operations, or quality within an electronics environment.
Relevant backgrounds may include
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Electronics Manufacturing Operations
- Manufacturing/Operations Management
- Quality Engineering or Quality Management
- NPI / Production Engineering
- Electronics Manufacturing Consulting
A degree in electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or a related discipline is beneficial, but demonstrated hands-on manufacturing experience is more important than a specific degree.
