The University of Ottawa Heart Institute does not use artificial intelligence (AI) in its recruitment process. All hiring decisions are made through human review and evaluation.
Shape the future of data, analytics and AI in healthcare
The University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) is Canada's largest heart health centre, recognized internationally for excellence in patient care, research, education and prevention. A key strategic guiding principle for UOHI is to leverage data, artificial intelligence (AI), and technology with a human touch. We are seeking an innovative and visionary leader to serve as our inaugural Chief Data Officer (CDO). This is a unique opportunity to help define how data, analytics and AI can accelerate discovery, inform clinical, administrative, and operational decision-making, improve patient outcomes, enhance efficiency and effectiveness, all to advance the future of cardiovascular care and research. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the organization's enterprise approach to data and AI. Building on the work of a recently completed Institute-wide AI Task Force, the Chief Data Officer will help translate emerging priorities and recommendations into a cohesive enterprise strategy. Working across clinical care, research, and corporate operations, the Chief Data Officer will bring together existing strengths, establish the governance and frameworks needed to support enterprise decision-making, and help determine the operating model that will best position the organization for the future.
The opportunity
Data is one of the Institute's most valuable strategic assets. As Chief Data Officer, you will work closely with executive leaders, clinicians, researchers and technology partners to develop and implement an enterprise data strategy that enables the trusted, secure and responsible use of data and AI across the organization.
You will provide leadership in:
- Developing the Institute's enterprise data and AI strategy.
- Building governance frameworks that promote trusted, high-quality and accessible data.
- Advancing the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence to enable care, research and operational efficiency.
- Enabling data-informed decision-making across clinical, research and operational environments.
- Bringing together diverse stakeholders around a shared vision for data as a strategic asset.
- Assessing and recommending organizational approaches, accountabilities, and operating models that will best support long-term organizational success.
This role will be instrumental in helping the Institute move from strong individual data capabilities toward a more coordinated enterprise approach that maximizes value, innovation, and impact.
What you will bring
We're looking for a leader who combines strategic vision with the ability to build relationships, influence across complex environments, and drive meaningful organizational change. You may come from healthcare, research, digital health, technology, analytics, or another highly complex and data-intensive environment. Most importantly, you bring:
- Significant senior leadership experience in data, analytics, information management, digital health, technology, or a related field.
- Experience developing enterprise-wide strategies and governance frameworks.
- A strong understanding of data governance, analytics, AI, and information management principles.
- Success in leading large-scale transformation initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
- Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to connect technical concepts to organizational priorities.
- A passion for innovation and the role data and AI can play in improving outcomes for patients, researchers and the broader healthcare system.
Why this role?
Opportunities like this are rare. You will have the chance to help define an enterprise vision for data, analytics and AI within Canada's foremost cardiac healthcare organization. You will work alongside accomplished clinicians, scientists and leaders to shape how data is governed, connected and leveraged to advance patient care, research excellence and innovation.
For a leader excited by the challenge of building alignment, creating strategy and establishing the foundations that will guide future decision-making, this is an opportunity to leave a lasting organizational legacy.

This position is hybrid, with a combination of on-site and remote work.
