Facility Maintenance Cleaning Supervisor The Works – Memorial University Recreation Complex

Job Type: Part time Permanent (24–32 hours/week)

Salary: $18.51 per hour, plus 8% in lieu of benefits

Shifts: Days, evenings, weekends and overnights

Position Summary The Facility Maintenance Cleaning Supervisor is a junior management position reporting to the Maintenance Manager. The position provides supervision and direction to facility attendants while supporting the cleaning, maintenance, safety and daily operations of The Works.

The successful candidate will help coordinate staff schedules, training, cleaning and maintenance activities, special events, and facility projects. The position requires flexibility to work a variety of shifts and occasional emergency call-ins.

Key Responsibilities

- Supervise, schedule, train and evaluate Facility Attendants.
- Ensure facilities, grounds, parking areas and common spaces are clean, safe and well maintained.
- Monitor cleaning and preventative maintenance programs and ensure established procedures are followed.
- Conduct regular facility and safety inspections and address maintenance or operational concerns.
- Coordinate cleaning and maintenance requirements for special events, renovations, shutdowns and other projects.
- Assist with aquatic facility operations, including pool maintenance, filtration systems and water chemistry.
- Ensure proper handling, storage and use of cleaning products and chemicals in accordance with safety requirements.
- Maintain cleaning and maintenance equipment and supplies.




- Assist with inventory, purchasing and cost-saving initiatives.
- Support seasonal exterior maintenance, including snow clearing and salting.
- Promote a positive, customer-focused environment and address staff or service concerns effectively.
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

- High school diploma.
- 3–4 years of experience in facilities, cleaning or maintenance operations.
- 3–4 years of supervisory experience in a maintenance or facilities environment.
- Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, products and equipment.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools and related equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical or HVAC systems considered an asset.

Physical Requirements The position requires regular standing, walking, reaching and use of cleaning, maintenance and other equipment. Employees may occasionally be required to climb, kneel, crouch or lift/move items weighing more than 50 pounds. Security Requirement A clear Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
