Company Overview
Weaver Group Ltd. is an independent, Alberta-owned and operated contractor specializing in pipeline, facility and heavy civil construction, integrity services, facility maintenance, and land reclamation throughout Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan.
Founded in 1994, our roots are in the field. We bring experienced crews, skilled tradespeople, and hands-on leadership to demanding construction and maintenance projects. We value safe execution, quality workmanship, accountability, and a respectful work environment.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Field QC Lead to oversee quality control activities on a pipeline construction project.
Reporting to the QC Manager, you will be the primary contact for project quality matters, working closely with on-site project manager, field supervision, inspectors, testing providers, engineering, and client representatives. You will help ensure construction meets approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements—from material receiving through inspection, testing, and final turnover.
This role requires someone who understands pipeline construction, can identify issues before they become costly rework, and has the confidence to address deficiencies with the project team.
What We Offer
- Compensation based on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated competencies.
- Camp accommodations provided.
- A field leadership role with ownership of project quality activities.
- A collaborative team that values practical knowledge, accountability, and quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead implementation and administration of the project quality control program.
- Develop and maintain inspection and test plans, inspection checklists, and quality records.
- Monitor pipeline construction activities, including pipe handling, bending, welding, coating, trenching, lowering-in, tie-ins, crossings, and backfilling.
- Coordinate qualified welding and coating inspectors, non-destructive testing providers, and other testing resources.
- Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, inspection records, and required approvals.
- Confirm pipe, fittings, valves, and other materials meet specifications and maintain material and weld traceability.
- Coordinate inspection schedules and ensure required hold and witness points are addressed before work proceeds.
- Review coating inspection and hydrostatic pressure test records for completeness and compliance with project requirements.
- Identify and document non-conforming work, coordinate corrective actions, and track deficiencies through to closure.
- Maintain weld maps, inspection reports, material certificates, test records, and other auditable quality documentation.
- Compile turnover packages and support client inspections, audits, and final acceptance.
- Communicate quality concerns clearly and work with project leadership to resolve issues.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 5 years of pipeline construction experience, with practical knowledge of field construction and inspection requirements.
- Experience in pipeline QA/QC or inspection, including welding and NDT coordination, coating verification, material traceability, pressure testing, and turnover documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret pipeline alignment sheets, construction drawings, weld maps, and engineering documents.
- Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
- Confidence working with field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and client representatives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and related project software.
- Experience leading project quality activities considered an asset.
- Relevant technical education, trade qualifications, or pipeline inspection training preferred.
- API 1169 or relevant welding or coating inspection certification considered an asset.
- Previous experience on remote or camp-based construction projects considered an asset.
Additional Requirements
- Valid First Aid certification.
- Valid CSO or equivalent safety certification.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Ability to work in a remote, camp-based environment.
- Ability to travel to designated transportation pickup locations.
- Availability for extended hours as project requirements demand.
- Ability to perform field duties in varying weather and site conditions.
