IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY
Interim Vice President, Finance & Facilities
Reports to EVP Corporate Services
100% virtual
12-15 month engagement
Our client is a highly reputable Canadian organization with a significant and multifaceted mandate. During a period of leadership transition, they are seeking an accomplished Interim Vice President, Finance & Facilities to provide stability, strong financial stewardship and experienced leadership while helping position the organization for its next chapter.
This is more than a maintenance assignment. It is an opportunity for an experienced finance executive to come in, make an immediate impact and elevate an already high-performing function. The successful interim will inherit a capable team and will be expected to provide visible leadership, bring fresh perspective, strengthen financial insight and discipline, and identify opportunities to enhance the sophistication and effectiveness of the function.
The mandate spans financial reporting, planning, performance management, risk and controls, treasury, facilities and procurement, while providing senior leadership with thoughtful financial advice and insight.
The Mandate
Working closely with the senior executive team, the Interim VP will take leadership of the finance function and ensure continued strength in the organization's financial management during the transition.
This is a role for someone equally comfortable around the executive table and in the details. The successful executive will be strategic when the situation requires it, but willing to roll up their sleeves, challenge assumptions, solve problems and help the team execute.
Key priorities will include:
- Providing strong financial stewardship, ensuring the continued integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, forecasting and financial operations.
- Leading and supporting a strong finance team, creating clarity, engagement and momentum through a period of change.
- Acting as a trusted financial advisor to senior leadership, bringing insight to organizational performance, longer-term planning and decision-making.
- Reviewing existing financial processes, controls and practices and identifying opportunities to modernize, streamline and elevate the sophistication of the function.
- Providing leadership across facilities management and procurement, ensuring strong governance,
commercial discipline and effective execution.
- Strengthening budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, risk management and performance reporting.
- Working effectively with external advisors, auditors and other key stakeholders.
- Supporting senior leadership and the organization's governance bodies with credible, thoughtful financial insight. The underlying position specifically supports Audit and Finance Committee and Board activities.
- Looking beyond business-as-usual to identify opportunities to drive change, improve effectiveness and leave the organization stronger at the conclusion of the mandate.
The Ideal Interim Executive
We are looking for a seasoned financial executive who knows how to enter an established organization, quickly understand the environment and add value without unnecessary disruption.
Ideally, this individual will bring a combination of not-for-profit and commercial experience, pairing an understanding of stewardship, governance and stakeholder accountability with the commercial instincts and operational discipline of the private sector.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Significant senior financial leadership experience within a complex organization.
- A professional accounting designation, with strong technical grounding across accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and internal controls. The underlying profile calls for a CPA/CA-preferred designation and experience with IFRS, ASPE and ASNPO.
- Experience leading strong teams through periods of transition, change or transformation.
- A genuinely hands-on style. Someone prepared to get into the numbers and issues rather than lead exclusively from 30,000 feet.
- The ability to move comfortably between strategy and execution.
- Exposure to facilities, procurement and broader corporate services would be highly valuable.
- Strong executive presence and the ability to establish credibility quickly with senior executives, employees, external advisors and governance stakeholders.
- A pragmatic,
collaborative leadership style with the confidence to respectfully challenge the status quo.
- Experience operating across both mission-driven/not-for-profit and commercially oriented environments would be particularly attractive.
Why This Assignment?
For the right interim executive, this offers the opportunity to do what great interims do best: step into an important organization at an important moment and make a measurable difference.
You will be joining a high-performing team rather than rebuilding a broken function. The prospect is to provide leadership through transition, bring an objective external lens, elevate financial and operational practices, and create sustainable improvements that remain long after the assignment has concluded.
This is an assignment for someone who enjoys being more than a caretaker. It requires an executive who can protect what is working, challenge what can be better, and create momentum for what comes next.
