About Us
Willie Cheng Law Office is a growing real estate law firm serving residential and commercial clients. We are a small, diverse team that cares about each other, our work and our clients. Everyone here is valued, respected and supported, and we share our knowledge so new team members learn quickly. We train our own people.
About the Role
This is an entry-level role for someone who wants a career in real estate law. No legal experience is needed. From your first week, your day will mix front-desk and admin work with real file work, and you will learn on live files with hands-on support from our team.
Everyone learns at a different pace, so there is no fixed timeline. You move up, and your pay is reviewed, as soon as you are ready for the next level. We meet with you regularly to check your progress and plan what you will learn next.
What You'll Do From Day One
- Greet clients and visitors, and answer and direct calls
- Handle mail, couriers, scanning and filing
- Book client appointments and signing meetings
- Open new files and enter file data in our closing software
- Order mortgage payout and discharge statements
- Run off-title searches (realty taxes, utilities, executions)
How You'll Grow
- Junior Legal Assistant I: learn the day-one tasks above until you can do them accurately on your own.
- Junior Legal Assistant II: draft straightforward closing documents (directions, acknowledgements, declarations), prepare files for signing meetings, and follow up on undertakings, with every document reviewed.
- Legal Assistant: handle files of your own, drafting closing documents, undertakings and reporting letters.
- Law Clerk: with experience, and a Law Clerk diploma or equivalent, run real estate files from start to finish.
Front-desk and admin work stays part of the role at every level, shared with the team.
What We're Looking For
- A sharp eye for detail: you notice when a name, number or date is wrong
- Quick to learn new software and systems, and willing to ask questions
- Organized and reliable, with several tasks on the go at once
- Comfortable handling confidential information
- A warm, professional manner in person and on the phone
- Fluent English; Cantonese or Mandarin preferred
- Office, reception or customer service experience is an asset
- Real estate law courses, or exposure to Unity or Teraview, are a plus
What We Offer
- Paid, hands-on training in real estate law, with a clear path from Junior Legal Assistant to Law Clerk
- Pay reviews tied to your progress, not the calendar
- Health, dental and vision benefits
- A predictable schedule (9:00 to 6:00,
Monday to Friday) where work stays at the office
- A small, supportive team where your progress is noticed
How to Apply
- Email your resume to [email protected] with the subject line exactly: “Junior Legal Assistant – [Your Last Name] – [Your Favourite Hobby]”
- In a short note (3–4 sentences), tell us why you are interested in real estate law, which languages you speak, and about a time you learned something new quickly. If you have no legal experience, write “No experience, but eager to learn.”
- Already have 1 year as a real estate legal assistant? Tell us in your note, and we’ll consider you for our Legal Assistant level ($50K–$57K).
- We thank all applicants for their interest; however, due to the volume of applicants, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
- We welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Accommodation is available on request for candidates with disabilities at any stage of the hiring process.
