Alternatives is an independent, family-focused funeral home that has served the Fraser Valley for more than 34 years. We are not part of a corporate chain. Our team works with a lot of autonomy, backed by management who are easy to reach and coworkers who support one another.

About the role

If embalming is the work you enjoy most, this is a role built around it. About 70% of your time will be spent running our preparation room, and the other 30% supporting families and services as a Funeral Director.

Schedule

- Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Occasional weekends, with time off in lieu

What you’ll do Embalming and preparation (about 70%)

- Manage all aspects of the preparation room
- Perform embalming, restorative work, dressing, cosmetology, and casketing to a high standard
- Ensure proper identification, handling, and documentation of every decedent in our care
- Maintain inventory of preparation room supplies, caskets, and urns
- Keep the preparation area clean, organized, and compliant with health, safety, and provincial regulations

Funeral directing (about 30%)

- Meet with families and help them plan services
- Assist with visitations, funerals, and memorial services
- Lead graveside services




- Complete and file required documentation and permits accurately

What you bring

- A valid BC Funeral Director and Embalmer licence.
- Solid experience in all aspects of embalming and decedent care
- Strong attention to detail and dependable work habits
- A compassionate, skilled manner with grieving families
- The ability to work independently while being a good team player
- A valid driver’s licence and clean driving record

Where you’ll work We are in Aldergrove, surrounded by nature trails, mountain views, and a relaxed pace of life. Nearby Langley, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack are growing communities with plenty of amenities, and housing there costs less than in Vancouver.
