Position Overview

Machina Construction Ltd. is seeking hardworking, reliable, and motivated Pipelayer Helpers to join our sewer and watermain construction crews throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

The successful candidates will assist experienced pipelayers, equipment operators, and site supervisors with the installation of underground sewer and watermain infrastructure on municipal and civil construction projects.

We are looking for individuals who are physically capable, safety-conscious, dependable, and willing to learn and develop their skills in the sewer and watermain construction industry.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist experienced pipelayers with the installation of sanitary sewers, storm sewers, watermains, and associated underground infrastructure.
- Help prepare pipe bedding, trenches, and work areas prior to pipe installation.
- Assist with positioning, aligning, and connecting various types of pipes, including PVC, concrete, ductile iron, and HDPE.
- Support the installation of maintenance holes, catch basins, valves, hydrants, fittings, and other underground infrastructure components.
- Assist pipelayers with checking pipe grades, elevations, and alignments under supervision.
- Help prepare, handle, and install pipe gaskets, restraints, fittings, and connection materials.
- Assist with backfilling, compaction, and site restoration activities.
- Safely handle construction materials, equipment, and hand tools.
- Work alongside excavator operators and pipelayers while maintaining safe distances from operating equipment.
- Assist with the setup and removal of construction materials and equipment as directed by site supervisors.




- Support watermain pressure testing, flushing, disinfection, and sewer testing activities as required.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, including the removal of debris and excess materials.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged materials, or potential underground utility conflicts.
- Follow instructions from foremen, pipelayers, and site supervisors to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Comply with all company safety policies, Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements, and applicable construction regulations.

Qualifications and Requirements

MUST BE MEMBER OF LIUNA LOCAL 183

- Previous experience in sewer and watermain construction, civil construction, or general construction is preferred.
- Experience assisting with underground pipe installation is considered an asset.
- Basic understanding of construction tools, materials, and equipment.
- Willingness to learn pipe installation techniques, grading procedures, and construction safety practices.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, kneeling, and working in excavations.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and ground conditions.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a construction crew.
- Solid work ethic, reliability, punctuality, and attention to safety.
- Ability to recognize workplace hazards and follow established safety procedures.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to construction sites throughout the GTA are preferred.

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week
