Position Overview

Machina Construction Ltd. is seeking experienced and dependable Pipelayers to join our sewer and watermain construction crews throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

The successful candidates will be responsible for installing underground sewer and watermain infrastructure on municipal and civil construction projects. We are looking for skilled individuals who take pride in their workmanship, understand the importance of job site safety, and can work efficiently as part of an experienced construction crew.

Key Responsibilities

- Install sanitary sewers, storm sewers, watermains, and associated underground infrastructure in accordance with construction drawings and project specifications.
- Lay, align, level, and connect various types and sizes of pipes, including PVC, concrete, ductile iron, and HDPE.
- Assist with the installation of maintenance holes, catch basins, valves, hydrants, fittings, and other underground infrastructure components.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, grades, elevations, and pipe installation specifications.
- Work closely with mainline excavator operators, foremen, and labourers to ensure accurate pipe placement and installation.
- Prepare pipe bedding and ensure proper pipe alignment, slope, and grade.
- Assist with trench preparation, shoring, trench boxes, and excavation safety procedures.
- Install and secure pipe connections, gaskets, restraints, and fittings in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Assist with watermain pressure testing, flushing, disinfection,



and sewer testing as required.
- Identify and report underground utility conflicts, unsafe conditions, or installation concerns to site supervisors.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Comply with company safety policies, Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements, and applicable construction regulations.

Qualifications and Requirements MUST BE MEMBER OF LIUNA LOCAL 183

- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in sewer and watermain construction, preferably on municipal infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience installing mainline sanitary sewers, storm sewers, and watermains.
- Strong understanding of pipe grades, elevations, alignments, and underground utility installations.
- Experience working with various pipe materials, diameters, and connection systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of trench safety, excavation procedures, and underground utility protection.
- Experience installing maintenance holes, catch basins, hydrants, valves, and watermain fittings.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather and site conditions.
- Solid teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to job sites throughout the GTA.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, productivity, and workmanship.

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week
