Our challenge

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Core Java Developer with strong expertise in electronic trading, pre-trade processing, front-office systems, low-latency application development, and contemporary Java technologies .

The successful candidate will design, develop, and optimize high-performance trading platforms and distributed systems using Core Java, Java 17/21, multithreading, concurrency, and Solace messaging . The role also requires recent exposure to Artificial Intelligence or Generative AI technologies and the ability to identify practical AI opportunities within enterprise software engineering and financial technology.

This position involves significant participation in architecture, technical design, performance optimization, production support, and engineering best practices .

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Toronto, ON is CAD $110k – CAD $130k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance applications for e-trading, pre-trade, and front-office trading platforms .
- Develop scalable, reliable, and low-latency services using Core Java and Java 17/21 .
- Perform high-level and low-level design for complex distributed systems.
- Implement multithreaded and concurrent applications using Java concurrency frameworks and modern programming techniques.
- Evaluate and apply Java Virtual Threads where appropriate to improve scalability and resource utilization.
- Optimize application performance, throughput, latency, CPU utilization, memory usage, and garbage collection.
- Build event-driven and asynchronous solutions using Solace messaging or equivalent enterprise messaging technologies .
- Design and implement messaging flows using queues, topics, guaranteed delivery, persistence, retries, acknowledgments, and recovery mechanisms.
- Support pre-trade workflows, order processing, trade capture, order routing, risk checks, and execution-related services.




- Collaborate with product managers, business analysts, traders, architects, and technology teams to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Participate in architecture reviews, design discussions, code reviews, and technical decision-making.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues involving application performance, concurrency, messaging, and distributed systems.
- Develop unit, integration, regression, and performance tests to ensure software quality and reliability.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, observability, and production monitoring.
- Explore and implement appropriate use cases for AI and Generative AI , including AI-assisted development, automation, analytics, documentation, testing, and operational support.
- Mentor junior and senior engineers and promote coding standards, clean architecture, and engineering best practices.
- Produce technical documentation, architecture diagrams, sequence diagrams, and operational runbooks.

Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

10+ years of professional software engineering experience .

Excellent proficiency in Core Java .

Strong hands-on experience with Java 17 or Java 21 .

Strong knowledge of

Strong experience with multithreading, concurrency, and performance engineering , including:

- Race-condition and deadlock prevention
- Thread-safe design
- Lock-free or non-blocking programming concepts

Experience developing low-latency, high-throughput, and highly available systems . Practical experience with Java Virtual Threads or comparable modern concurrency approaches.

Professional experience in electronic trading, pre-trade processing, front-office trading, capital markets, or financial technology systems .

Hands-on experience with Solace messaging , Solace PubSub+, or an equivalent enterprise messaging platform.

Strong understanding of queues, topics, publish/subscribe messaging, guaranteed delivery, message persistence, retries, acknowledgment, and replay.

Strong system-design and software-architecture skills.

Recent practical exposure to AI, Generative AI, large language models, or AI-assisted engineering tools .

- Excellent communication, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred, but not required:



Experience with FIX protocol or other financial messaging protocols.

Knowledge of market-data systems, order-management systems, execution-management systems, or trade-lifecycle processing.

Understanding of trading workflows, order states, execution events, and pre-trade risk or compliance checks.

Experience with Linux and production troubleshooting.

Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud-native deployments.

Experience with observability tools, metrics, distributed tracing, logging, and performance monitoring.

Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.

Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps practices.

Exposure to microservices and event-driven architecture.

Experience working in Agile delivery environments.

Experience with performance profiling and optimization tools such as JFR, VisualVM, async-profiler, or comparable tools.

Familiarity with AI/GenAI concepts such as:

- LLM APIs
- Prompt engineering
- AI-assisted coding
- AI-based test generation
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation
- AI-powered analytics or automation
