Meta Steel Buildings Inc. specializes in prefabricated steel buildings and structural steel solutions. We are looking for an experienced Shop Welding Supervisor / Lead Welder to join our team at our Orillia facility.

This is a hands-on working supervisor position. The successful candidate will be actively involved in welding and fabrication while overseeing daily shop operations, maintaining quality standards, and supporting our team's productivity.

As we continue to grow, this individual will also play an important role in helping our company achieve Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform hands-on welding, fitting, and fabrication work alongside shop employees.
- Supervise and coordinate daily welding and fabrication activities.
- Read and interpret structural steel drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
- Assign tasks, provide technical guidance, and support welders and fabricators.
- Inspect completed welds and fabricated components to ensure quality and dimensional accuracy.
- Ensure proper welding techniques, equipment operation, and safe working practices.
- Monitor production schedules and help maintain an efficient workflow.
- Identify and resolve welding or fabrication issues.
- Train and mentor shop personnel as needed.
- Assist with developing and implementing welding procedures, quality control practices, and documentation.
- Support the company's future CWB certification process, including compliance with applicable CSA welding standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Minimum 5 years of relevant welding experience, preferably in structural steel fabrication.
- Previous experience as a Welding Supervisor, Shop Foreman, Lead Welder, or similar position.




- Strong hands-on welding and fabrication skills, including MIG/GMAW and flux-cored welding (FCAW).
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and welding symbols.
- Experience supervising welding operations and maintaining shop quality standards.
- Good understanding of welding inspection, weld defects, and corrective procedures.
- Knowledge of CSA W47.1 and CSA W59 welding standards.
- Existing CWB Welding Supervisor qualification or the experience, knowledge, and eligibility to successfully obtain this qualification is required.
- Welding trade certification, Red Seal endorsement, or relevant welding training is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability and willingness to perform physical, hands-on shop work on a daily basis.
