The Role

As a Wine Shop Sales Associate, you'll play an important role in creating an exceptional retail experience. You'll help customers discover wines that suit their tastes, introduce them to recent regions and producers, and build lasting relationships through thoughtful, knowledgeable service.

This is a hands-on retail position that combines wine expertise, customer engagement, and day-to-day shop operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging customer service.
- Recommend wines based on customer preferences, occasions, and budgets.
- Confidently discuss classic wine regions, grape varieties, producers, and styles.
- Develop relationships with regular customers and help introduce new customers to the shop.
- Assist with organizing and conducting structured, approachable wine tastings.
- Support daily retail operations, including merchandising, stocking, inventory management, and point-of-sale transactions.
- Maintain an attractive, organized, and welcoming retail environment.
- Stay informed about new arrivals, featured producers, and the shop's evolving wine selection.
- Contribute to sales growth through thoughtful recommendations and proactive customer engagement.

Qualifications

Required:





- WSET Level 2 certification or higher, or equivalent practical knowledge of classic wine regions and styles from around the world.
- A solid understanding of major wine-producing countries, regions, and grape varieties.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain wine in an engaging, approachable manner.
- A genuine interest in wine, hospitality, and customer service.
- Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Considered an Asset:

- Experience working in wine retail, restaurants, or hospitality.
- WSET Level 3 or higher certification.
- Experience leading or assisting with structured, introductory-level wine tastings.
- Familiarity with boutique producers, traditional winemaking regions, and emerging wine trends.
- Previous experience with retail sales, inventory systems, or POS software.
