Role Overview
Healthcare facilities rely on dependable security professionals to keep staff, patients, and visitors safe. As a Casual Security Guard supporting healthcare sites across Southern Alberta's Rural West region (including Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass, Cardston, Raymond, and Fort Macleod), you will serve as a calm, protective, and reassuring presence in community healthcare environments.
This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy staying physically active, communicating with diverse groups of people, and resolving challenging situations with empathy and confidence. Because this is a casual position with rotating day and overnight shifts, it offers flexibility while allowing you to perform meaningful work that directly impacts local healthcare communities.
What Success Looks Like
In this role, success means maintaining a safe, welcoming environment through proactive observation, outstanding customer service, and steady composure during emergencies.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Conduct Active Patrols: Perform thorough interior and exterior foot patrols across large facilities, which includes walking up to 18 to 20 kilometers and climbing multiple flights of stairs per shift.
- Assist Patients and Visitors: Provide customer service, direct visitors, handle lost-and-found inquiries, and support facility staff with everyday security needs.
- De-escalate Conflict: Use calm verbal communication to resolve tense situations, manage distressed individuals, and enforce site policies safely.
- Respond to Emergencies: Quickly respond to security alarms, medical alerts, and critical incidents.
Provide basic first aid when necessary and collaborate effectively with police, fire, and paramedic responders.
- Maintain Accurate Logs: Write explicit, objective incident reports and log site activities using two-way radios and digital reporting applications.
Long-Term Impact
Over time, you will build strong rapport with healthcare staff and community members, contributing to a reliable culture of safety across regional sites.
