Winter Brine Truck Operator – Seasonal / On-Call

The Gardener – Peterborough, Ontario

The Gardener is looking for a reliable, experienced, and safety-conscious Brine Truck Operator to join our winter snow and ice management team.

This position involves operating a commercial brine truck to apply liquid de-icing products to commercial parking lots, roadways, and other designated areas throughout assigned routes.

We are looking for an individual who is confident operating larger commercial trucks, comfortable using technology, and capable of working independently while maintaining strong communication with our winter operations team.

A valid AR driver's licence is REQUIRED for this position.

Position & Availability Requirements

This is a seasonal, ON-CALL winter position. Work is entirely weather-dependent, and operators must be available when winter conditions require service.

- Must have reliable on-call availability throughout the winter season.
- Must be available for overnight, early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Must be able to respond and report to work when called for snow and ice events.
- School, another job, or other commitments cannot interfere with required winter availability.
- Must understand that working hours fluctuate based on weather conditions, with some weeks having limited hours and others requiring extended shifts.
- Must be comfortable working in snow, freezing rain, icy conditions, and challenging winter weather.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Valid Ontario AR driver's licence – REQUIRED.
- Previous experience operating commercial trucks – REQUIRED.
- Previous snow removal, salting, brine application, or winter maintenance experience is strongly preferred.
- Must be proficient with smartphones and mobile applications for time tracking, job documentation, and route management.
- Must be comfortable operating electronic sprayer controls and using technology to adjust and monitor brine applications.




- Confident driving larger commercial vehicles in challenging winter road conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow specific application instructions.
- Able to work independently and efficiently without constant supervision.
- Able to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.

Position Responsibilities

- Safely operate a commercial brine truck throughout assigned winter routes.
- Apply liquid de-icing products to commercial parking lots and other designated areas.
- Use electronic sprayer controls to manage application rates and ensure accurate product distribution.
- Follow company procedures for proper brine application and product usage.
- Accurately use mobile applications to clock in/out, track working hours, document services, and complete assigned jobs.
- Follow designated routes and property-specific service instructions.
- Monitor property conditions and report any areas of concern, including excessive ice, drainage issues, or unsafe conditions.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Assist with loading brine and checking tanks, pumps, hoses, spray nozzles, and other equipment as required.
- Report any mechanical issues, property damage, or safety concerns immediately.
- Maintain regular communication with supervisors throughout each shift.
- Confirm completion of assigned routes and ensure all work is properly documented before finishing a shift.
