About the Company
The New Mummy Company supports families during pregnancy and early parenthood with prenatal, birth, and postpartum services, including private newborn care nursing, in several Canadian cities. Much of our work comes from referrals and repeat clients. Our nurses, midwives, and postpartum doulas choose shifts that fit their own schedules. We are currently hiring to fulfill the growing demand for our services.
About the Role
We’re hiring RNs and LPNs with recent hands-on experience in postpartum, labour and delivery, NICU, or paediatrics to provide private newborn care to families in Vancouver and the lower mainland.
This is an independent contractor role. You’ll work in clients’ homes, supporting families in the first weeks after birth through hands-on care, parent education, and support suited to each family. Most shifts are overnight, so the baby is safe and cared for while parents rest and recover.
What You’ll Do
- Care for newborns overnight: feeding, diapering, soothing, and monitoring
- Help parents with breastfeeding, pumping, and formula feeding
- Set up safe sleep routines that match the baby’s development
- Teach, reassure, and emotionally support parents after birth
- Spot infant health concerns and report them quickly
- Stay professional, respectful, and confidential in every home
- Follow current best practices for newborn care and safe sleep
What You Need
- Active RN or LPN registration in good standing with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- At least 2 years of newborn and infant care experience in a nursing or clinical setting within the last 3 years (required)
- Transparent communication and confidence coaching recent parents
- Patience, compassion, and comfort working alone in private homes
- Reliable availability for shifts in Vancouver and surrounding areas
- Valid CPR-C, renewed every year
- Valid driver’s licence and your own vehicle (preferred, because of overnight shifts)
- Legal right to work in Canada (no sponsorship)
- Vulnerable Sector Check, current or willing to get one, renewed every year
Schedule
Flexible. Take shifts alongside your current job or pick up more full-time contracts.
Pay
Based on experience and qualifications. The top rate is $50/hour for RNs and $45/hour for LPNs hired by clients, subject to insurance coverage. Please note: Non-medical roles (night nanny) pay less, and these make up most of the available work.
Location: In person
Internationally educated nurses, pediatric professionals, and OB/GYN specialists are welcome to apply. Canadian experience isn’t required; relevant international experience counts.
Every application is reviewed by a person on our hiring team. No automated screening.
Pay: $30.00-$50.00 per hour
Experience:
- recent newborn care: 2 years (required)
Work Location: In person
