Position Summary

The Automotive Detailer is responsible for cleaning, detailing, and preparing new, used, service, and customer vehicles to meet dealership presentation and quality standards.

The Detailer ensures vehicles are professionally cleaned and ready for display, customer appointments, test drives, vehicle deliveries, and service returns. This position plays an important role in maintaining dealership standards, customer satisfaction, and the overall appearance of dealership inventory.

Key Responsibilities

1. Vehicle Detailing

- Clean and detail new, used, demonstration, service, and customer vehicles.
- Perform interior and exterior cleaning according to dealership standards.
- Vacuum carpets, mats, seats, and interior surfaces.
- Clean dashboards, consoles, door panels, windows, mirrors, and other interior surfaces.
- Wash and dry vehicle exteriors.
- Clean wheels, tires, wheel wells, and exterior trim.
- Apply approved cleaning and finishing products as required.
- Remove dirt, dust, stains, fingerprints, and other contaminants.
- Perform basic polishing and paint-care procedures where trained and authorized.

2. New & Used Vehicle Preparation

- Prepare newly received vehicles for showroom and lot display.
- Detail used vehicles following the dealership's reconditioning standards.
- Prepare vehicles for customer demonstrations and test drives.
- Ensure vehicles are professionally presented before customer delivery.
- Assist with final vehicle preparation before delivery.
- Maintain consistent detailing standards across all dealership inventory.

3. Customer Vehicle Cleaning

- Clean and detail customer vehicles as part of approved service or dealership programs.
- Follow customer-specific instructions provided by Service Advisors or Management.
- Protect customer belongings and personal property while cleaning vehicles.
- Report any pre-existing or newly identified damage to the appropriate manager before proceeding where required.
- Ensure customer vehicles are returned in a clean and professional condition.

4. Quality Control

- Inspect completed vehicles to ensure dealership detailing standards have been met.
- Identify areas requiring additional cleaning or correction.
- Re-clean or correct areas that do not meet required standards.
- Report significant stains, damage, odours, scratches, dents, or other vehicle concerns to Management.
- Ensure vehicles are ready within required timelines.

5. Vehicle Movement

- Move vehicles safely between designated dealership areas, including:
- Sales lot
- Service Department
- Detail area
- Wash bay
- Delivery area
- Storage areas

- Park vehicles in designated locations.




- Ensure vehicles are locked and secured when not being worked on.
- Follow dealership key-control and vehicle-security procedures.

6. Equipment & Cleaning Products

- Safely operate detailing equipment and tools.
- Maintain detailing equipment in positive working condition.
- Clean and organize work areas and equipment after use.
- Properly store cleaning chemicals and supplies.
- Follow manufacturer instructions for cleaning products and equipment.
- Notify Management when supplies or equipment require replacement or repair.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment when required.

7. Dealership Appearance

- Maintain a clean and organized detailing area.
- Keep wash bays, work areas, and equipment organized.
- Dispose of garbage, used materials, and waste appropriately.
- Assist with maintaining a professional appearance throughout designated dealership areas.
- Report facility, equipment, or safety concerns to Management.

8. Safety & Compliance

- Follow all dealership health and safety policies and procedures.
- Follow safe handling and storage procedures for cleaning chemicals and materials.
- Use required personal protective equipment.
- Follow WHMIS requirements and applicable workplace safety procedures.
- Report workplace hazards, injuries, accidents, spills, and vehicle damage immediately.
- Follow safe vehicle movement and equipment-operation procedures.
- Never use equipment or chemicals without appropriate training or authorization.

9. Customer Service & Teamwork

- Maintain a professional and respectful attitude when interacting with customers and employees.
- Work closely with Sales, Service, Parts, Lot Attendants, and Management.
- Respond promptly to vehicle preparation requests.
- Communicate vehicle condition or detailing concerns to the appropriate department.
- Assist team members when required to meet dealership deadlines.
- Contribute to a positive and professional workplace environment.

10. General Responsibilities

- Follow dealership policies, procedures, and standards.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding customer and dealership information.
- Maintain professional appearance and conduct.
- Complete assigned work within established timelines.
- Attend required training and safety meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications

- Previous automotive detailing experience is an asset.
- Previous dealership experience is preferred but not required.
- Valid driver's licence with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to safely operate dealership vehicles.
- Knowledge of automotive cleaning and detailing products and equipment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Professional attitude and commitment to quality.
- Willingness to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions where required.

Physical Requirements

The position may require:

- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and squatting.
- Repeatedly entering and exiting vehicles.
- Lifting and carrying detailing supplies and equipment within safe workplace limits.
- Working with water, cleaning products, and detailing equipment.
- Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Working Conditions

- Full-time or part-time position within an automotive dealership environment.
- Work may take place in detailing areas, wash bays, service areas, dealership lots, and customer delivery areas.
- May require evenings, Saturdays, weekends, or extended hours based on dealership operations.
- Exposure to water, cleaning products, dust, vehicle exhaust, and varying temperatures may occur.
- Appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment must be followed.

Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and the dealership's compensation structure and may include:
