Red Seal Electrician — Industrial Projects (Water/Wastewater, Fueling Stations, Controls)

Vanguard Power Ltd. | Chilliwack, BC

Lift stations, water and wastewater treatment plants, CNG and hydrogen fueling, pump houses, MCCs and instrumentation — on live facilities where the install has to be right the first time. You work to code and spec without someone standing over you, you teach the apprentice beside you the method rather than just the task, and when a drawing does not match the building you write it up instead of working around it. If that is how you already work, this is a crew that will notice.

About Vanguard Power Ltd.

Vanguard Power Ltd. is a British Columbia-based industrial electrical contractor. Our work includes water and wastewater treatment plants, pump and lift stations, traffic infrastructure, CNG, LNG, hydrogen and petroleum fueling stations, water parks and recreational facilities, and industrial power distribution, instrumentation, and controls projects across BC and Alberta. Our field teams work on live operating facilities, shutdowns, and technically demanding installations that require people who think critically, plan ahead, and take ownership of their work — without needing to be told what to do next.

The Role

You are the technical backbone of the crew. You install, test and troubleshoot electrical systems independently to the Canadian Electrical Code as adopted in BC and to the project specification, you own the quality of your own work, and you direct and teach the apprentices working with you on the task in front of you. You decide your own installation method and sequencing within your assigned task, make immediate quality corrections, and make like-for-like material substitutions and tell the Foreman or Lead Hand. You enter accurate time to the right cost code every day, keep your redlines current before work is covered, and flag material and access needs ahead of need. You do not perform work outside your assigned task, guess at an unclear drawing, direct an apprentice beyond their level or commit company funds — you flag extra work in writing and let the PM approve it, you raise a drawing conflict as an RFI, and you stop unsafe work, yours or anyone else's, without asking.

What You'll Do

● Install, test and troubleshoot power distribution, motor control, instrumentation and controls systems independently to code and specification

● Complete assigned work to standard, or communicate a clear reason why not — the same day, not at the end of the week

● Direct and teach apprentices on the immediate task, including correct method and protected practice, within what they are permitted at their level

● Enter accurate time against the correct cost code every day

● Report drawing conflicts and quality issues in writing as an RFI rather than working around them silently

● Identify extra work and changed conditions you encounter, flag them to the Foreman or Lead Hand immediately in writing, and do not perform them until the PM approves

● Verify material use, protect completed work, and flag material or access needs ahead of need

● Keep redline notes current for your own installed work before it is covered or turned over, and contribute to material reconciliation and lookaheads

Travel

[VANGUARD EXPECTATION] This is a field role. Full willingness and ability to travel and work out of town — including remote sites or camp-based assignments across BC (including the interior) and Alberta, with occasional projects in other provinces — is a condition of employment.

What You Bring — Must Have

● Red Seal Construction Electrician

● Completion of a recognized Construction Electrician apprenticeship

● Able to work to code and specification from drawings without close supervision, and to test and troubleshoot what you install

● Willing and able to travel and work out of town, including remote camp-based projects across BC and Alberta

Nice to Have

● Industrial or commercial field experience — water/wastewater, pump stations, fueling stations, process plants or live operating facilities

● Experience with motor control centres, VFDs, instrumentation, PLC/HMI field wiring or controls installations

● Experience directing and teaching apprentices on the job

● Current OFA / first aid, aerial lift, confined space, fall protection or similar site certifications

● Experience entering time against cost codes and keeping redlines on a project

Who Succeeds in This Role

The Journeyperson who does well here reads the drawing before cutting the first length, and when the drawing and the building disagree, they stop, write it up as an RFI and move to the next thing — they do not reroute it on their own and tell someone later. They test what they install and record it, keep redlines current before the ceiling goes up, and put their time against the right cost code every day without being reminded. They show the apprentices why the bonding goes where it goes, not just where; they never put that apprentice on live work. When they open a wall and find a feeder that is not on any drawing, they flag it and leave it,

because extra work is the PM's call, not theirs. They lock out and verify on the five-minute job the same as the five-hour one, and they stop work when something is wrong without checking who is watching.

What We Offer

● Compensation: to be confirmed based on experience and certification level.

● A written role package on day one: what you decide on your own task, what you flag, and what is never yours to decide — the same clarity your Foreman and Lead Hand have

● Technically demanding industrial work — live facilities, shutdowns, motor control, instrumentation, fueling stations — that builds depth a residential or commercial crew cannot

● A defined performance scorecard — timesheet accuracy, RFIs raised, apprentice teaching, rework, productivity, safety, material efficiency, code compliance — reviewed against records rather than impressions

● A documented path to Lead Hand and Foreman, with the roles already written down and leadership shown on the crew as the evidence

● Camp and out-of-town work across BC and Alberta where the project calls for it

Work Environment and Schedule

Based on the active project site for the duration of the assignment, including remote and camp-based locations. Full hands-on trade work: ladders, lifts, confined spaces and elevated work areas as the scope requires; hands-on installing, testing and troubleshooting of electrical systems throughout a shift; standard PPE and site safety compliance at all times. Variable schedules including shift work and overtime when the project requires it.

How We Hire

Indeed screeners first, then a resume filter against this role's must-sees. Shortlisted candidates answer a short set of role-specific skills questions with a defined pass mark, then two interviews: a fit and culture conversation, and a technical interview with the Director of Field Operations, with the Foreman you would work under present built around this role's decision authority and scorecard.
