Generator Technician – Diesel & Natural Gas Power Systems

Greater Vancouver / Lower Mainland, BC
$40.00–$65.00 per hour, based on experience
Full time | Field Service & Commissioning | Travel Required

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Join a growing Canadian power-systems company expanding its generator and field-service capabilities across British Columbia and beyond.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Generator Technician who enjoys technical challenges, working independently and taking ownership of customer-site assignments.

You'll work with industrial and commercial diesel and natural-gas generator systems, with a strong emphasis on new-equipment commissioning, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, generator controls and field service.

The company offers a smaller, hands-on environment where your expertise matters, your decisions have an impact and there is room to grow alongside the business.

What Would You Be Doing?

- Generator commissioning and startup: Commission newly installed diesel and natural-gas generator systems, verify electrical and mechanical operation, configure controls, test protective functions and complete startup documentation.
- Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting: Diagnose faults involving engines, alternators, starting and charging systems, fuel systems, cooling, wiring, sensors and associated electrical equipment.
- Generator controllers: Connect to generator controllers using manufacturer software, review alarms and operating parameters, adjust settings and troubleshoot control-related problems.
- ATS and power-transfer systems: Inspect, test and troubleshoot automatic transfer switches, generator-to-building connections and related electrical systems.
- Testing and verification: Perform functional testing, load-bank testing, voltage and frequency checks, and verification of alarms, shutdowns and system performance.
- Independent field service: Travel to customer sites,

often as the company's primary technical representative, to diagnose issues, complete commissioning and resolve problems professionally.
- Customer communication and reporting: Explain findings, coordinate with customers and site personnel, and complete accurate service and commissioning reports.
- Preventive maintenance and repairs: Inspect, maintain and repair diesel and natural-gas generator systems to support safe, reliable operation.

What Experience Is Most Important?

We're looking for someone with proven, hands-on generator experience who can demonstrate:

- Direct experience servicing, troubleshooting or commissioning diesel and/or natural-gas generator sets.
- Strong practical electrical knowledge, including three-phase power, voltage, current, frequency, power factor and safe electrical isolation.
- Experience with generator controllers, including connecting a laptop, using configuration software and adjusting operating or protection settings.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and control-system faults using schematics, meters, diagnostic tools and equipment manuals.
- Understanding of automatic voltage regulation (AVR), engine governors, generator protection and automatic transfer switches.
- Practical experience with generator startup, functional testing, load-bank testing or new-build commissioning.
- Confidence working independently at industrial or commercial customer locations.
- Strong customer communication, sound judgment and accurate technical documentation.
- A valid driver's licence and willingness to travel,

including potential assignments elsewhere in Canada or the United States.

This is a hands-on Generator Technician position, not a general maintenance, PLC programming or controls-engineering role. Direct experience with complete generator systems, particularly commissioning and controller configuration, is important.

Complementary Experience

The following would be valuable:

- Experience with Cummins, Caterpillar, MTU, Generac or other industrial generator manufacturers.
- Familiarity with DSE, ComAp, Woodward, DEIF, Cummins PowerCommand or CAT generator controllers and their configuration software.
- Large industrial generator packages, synchronization, paralleling or advanced switchgear.
- Data centres, critical-power facilities or other high-reliability applications.
- Advanced engine diagnostics, emissions systems or after-treatment equipment.
- PLC, SCADA, microgrid or hybrid-energy systems.

An industrial electrical, heavy-duty mechanical, millwright or related technical background may be an asset, particularly when combined with direct generator-service experience.

Travel and Location

This is a field-service position involving regular customer-site travel throughout the Lower Mainland and other parts of British Columbia, with potential assignments elsewhere in Canada and the United States.

The company's primary facility is in Greater Vancouver. Qualified candidates elsewhere in British Columbia may be considered depending on their experience, travel availability and ability to attend the main facility when required.

Compensation

$40.00–$65.00 per hour, depending on relevant generator experience, technical capabilities and ability to work independently.

This is an opportunity to join a growing organization, contribute directly to its technical service capabilities and build a long-term career in industrial power generation.

Pay: $40.00-$65.00 per hour

Work Location: On the road
