Love machining, but ready for something more?
Are you the kind of machinist who enjoys figuring things out, solving problems and understanding how everything works, not just the machine in front of you?
Maybe you've spent years programming, setting up and running CNC machines. You're good at what you do, but you're ready for more variety, more responsibility and an opportunity to put your broader mechanical knowledge to work.
This could be a particularly interesting next step.
We're recruiting a Workshop Team Lead for a growing international manufacturer specializing in precision hydraulic cylinders and mechanical components.
This is a hands-on technical leadership opportunity within a small, established workshop. You'll continue programming and operating machines while helping guide production, support your teammates and improve how the shop runs.
You'll work directly with the General Manager and have the opportunity to make a real impact as the Canadian operation continues to grow.
More Than Just CNC
This workshop brings together CNC and conventional machining, mechanical assembly, hydraulic cylinders, precision inspection, testing and troubleshooting.
We're looking for someone who appreciates that bigger picture.
Someone who enjoys working with machines, understands mechanical processes and is naturally curious about how different pieces of a manufacturing operation fit together.
You'll be the person who can solve a programming challenge, help an operator with a setup, identify a better way to machine a component or work through a production problem with the team.
And importantly, you'll still be hands-on.
What You'll Be Doing
- Independently program, set up and operate CNC turning and milling machines using FANUC controls.
- Develop CNC programs, tooling setups and machining processes for new parts and production requirements.
- Lead and support a small workshop team, providing hands-on technical guidance and mentoring.
- Organize daily production activities, coordinate priorities and keep work moving efficiently.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, mechanical and production challenges.
- Support conventional machining, hydraulic cylinder assembly, inspection and testing activities.
- Oversee tooling requirements and coordinate workshop equipment and tooling purchases.
- Maintain high standards for dimensional accuracy, product quality, safety and workmanship.
- Identify opportunities to improve machining processes, productivity and workshop efficiency.
- Work directly with the General Manager on production planning, technical decisions and workshop development.
What We're Looking For
- Strong hands-on CNC machining experience, including programming, setup and operation.
- Proven ability to independently program FANUC CNC turning and milling operations, including developing programs for new parts.
- Solid understanding of machining processes, cutting tools, tooling selection and workholding.
- Practical experience with conventional milling and lathe operations.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and work with precision measuring equipment.
- Experience guiding, mentoring or coordinating others in a machining or manufacturing environment.
- Valuable organizational skills, initiative, communication and attention to detail.
- A practical, collaborative approach to solving problems and supporting production.
Formal supervisory experience is valuable, but we're equally interested in experienced machinists who demonstrate natural leadership, sound judgment and a willingness to help others succeed.
Nice to Have
- Hydraulic cylinder machining or manufacturing experience.
- Familiarity with hydraulic systems, mechanical assembly or industrial equipment.
- Experience developing new machining processes or introducing new products.
- Exposure to production planning, tooling purchases or broader workshop operations.
What's In It for You
- $40-$45+/hour plus bonus, with flexibility for exceptional experience and technical capabilities.
- Full-time, permanent opportunity with health benefits and an RRSP program.
- A hands-on role where you'll continue programming, machining and solving technical problems.
- Variety across CNC machining, conventional machining, mechanical assembly and hydraulic manufacturing.
- Meaningful autonomy and the opportunity to influence workshop processes, tooling and production improvements.
- Direct working relationship with the General Manager.
- A small, collaborative team backed by an established international manufacturer.
- Long-term growth potential, including possible advancement toward Production Manager.
Interested?
If you're a skilled CNC machinist or programmer who enjoys working with machines, solving mechanical challenges and helping others succeed, we'd welcome the opportunity to connect.
This could be an excellent opportunity to put your technical experience to work in a broader, more engaging role while continuing to do the hands-on work you enjoy.
Thank you for your interest and time. While all applications are reviewed, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. All applications are handled confidentially.
