Field Supervisor / Heavy Equipment Operator – Access Matting

GFI Solutions Ltd. is an Alberta-based company specializing in access matting solutions, including the supply, installation, removal, and manufacturing of access mats. We take pride in providing reliable service to our clients while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and operational efficiency.

We are looking for an experienced Field Supervisor and/or Heavy Equipment Operator to join our growing team. This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in access matting who can operate equipment confidently, work independently in the field, and provide leadership and direction to crews when required.

We are looking for someone who understands the demands of the access matting industry, takes ownership of their work, and leads by example.

Key Responsibilities

- Operate loaders/excavators equipped with mat grapples to load, unload, install, and remove access mats.
- Safely coordinate matting operations, equipment, trucks, and field personnel.
- Supervise and support field crews to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to client requirements.
- Coordinate daily work activities and communicate job progress, delays, and operational concerns to management.
- Complete daily, hazard assessments, equipment inspections, and required safety documentation.
- Ensure accurate completion of job tickets, time tracking, and equipment records.
- Identify and report equipment maintenance needs, unsafe conditions, and potential hazards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies, client requirements, and applicable Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
- Travel to various job sites throughout Alberta as required.





Required Qualifications

- Minimum 2 years of experience in the access matting industry.
- Minimum 2 years of excavator operating experience using a mat grapple.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and equipment operation.
- Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and communicate effectively with crews, clients, and management.
- Reliable, hardworking, and accountable, with a strong understanding of field operations.
- Ability to work outdoors and travel to various locations throughout Alberta.

Previous supervisory or crew-lead experience is an asset. Candidates must be comfortable taking on leadership responsibilities appropriate to their experience.

Safety Certifications

- Ground Disturbance Level II
- H2S Alive
- Common Safety Orientation (CSO)
- Standard First Aid – Level C

Candidates who do not hold all preferred certifications may still be considered.
