Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Human Resource & Health and Safety Manager to join our operational leadership team. This dual-function role is critical in driving our talent acquisition, modernizing HR administration, managing foreign worker programs, and overseeing all technical safety, compliance, and risk management across our processing/manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition & HR Administration

- Recruitment & Hiring: Manage ongoing end-to-end plant recruitment, including posting ads, screening applicants, conducting interviews, and issuing official job letters for all new hires.
- Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Management: Oversee the 12-month TFW program lifecycle. Maintain local recruitment efforts, navigate LMIA requirements, and assist TFW staff with entry/exit documentation and holiday requests.
- Employee Relations & Reviews: Coordinate 3-month, 6-month, and annual performance reviews. Oversee fair, progressive disciplinary procedures.
- HR Modernization & Audits: Lead the transition to digital employee files and modern folder structures to ensure seamless internal tracking and external audit readiness.
- Payroll & Benefits Support: Process extended medical onboarding, manage claims, and serve as a reliable backup for plant worker payroll.

Health Safety & Environmental Compliance

- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full compliance with WorkSafe/WCB regulations, social compliance standards, and internal health and safety mandates.
- Injury & Claim Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for WCB claims,

return-to-work programs, and workplace injury reporting.
- Facility Emergency Preparedness: Monitor and execute mandatory schedules for emergency responses, including ammonia safety, fire drills, certified fire safety inspections, clear exits, and safe goods storage.
- Safety Integration: Work directly with the Quality Assurance (QA) team to integrate health and safety procedures with plant food safety protocols.
- Hazard Control & Monitoring: Continually inspect operations, update safety controls, and enforce standard operating procedures across the facility.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Experience: 3–5+ years in HR management paired with hands-on occupational health and safety experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or food processing environment.
- Program Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of provincial health and safety regulations (WCB/WorkSafe), standard social compliance requirements, and the Canadian Temporary Foreign Worker / LMIA process.
- Technical Safety Awareness: Familiarity with high-hazard plant safety (e.g., industrial refrigeration/ammonia systems, emergency response protocols).
- Skills: Excellent communication, conflict resolution, digital organization skills, and comfort with modernizing legacy record-keeping systems.
- Discretion: High level of skilled integrity when handling sensitive employee and payroll information.
