Grade 7 Special Education Tutor, Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT Required)

Help one student. Change one family's life. Rediscover why you became a teacher.

At TeachItRight, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed, regardless of the challenges they face.

TeachItRight was founded after seeing firsthand how many incredible students are slipping through the cracks of an increasingly overwhelmed education system. Too many families are searching for support, and too many passionate teachers no longer have the time, resources, or opportunity to provide the individualized teaching they know their students deserve. We created TeachItRight to change that.

Our mission is simple. To connect exceptional educators with students who need them most while giving teachers the professional respect, autonomy, and support they deserve.

We are building a community where educators can focus on what they do best. Teaching. Building relationships. Celebrating progress. Helping children discover what they are truly capable of.

Our Current Opportunity

We are currently looking for Ontario Certified Teachers with strong Special Education backgrounds to provide in-home educational support for a Grade 7 student in Caledon, Ontario.

We have two subject-specific opportunities available, one focusing on English and the other on Math, with one 60-minute session per week dedicated to each subject. Educators may be considered for either position based on their qualifications and experience. Teachers who are confident supporting both subjects may also be considered for both sessions.

He is a bright, social student who enjoys sports, spending time with friends, and staying active. He has ADHD and experiences challenges with executive functioning, attention, and certain areas of academic learning. As academic expectations have increased, gaps in his understanding have become more apparent, affecting both his progress and confidence.

His family is looking for an experienced Special Education Teacher who can take the time to understand how he learns, identify where his understanding breaks down, and adapt instruction accordingly. Building a strong relationship will be especially significant, as previous tutoring experiences have not provided the individualized support or engagement he needs.

He:

- Would benefit from targeted support in English or Math to address learning gaps and strengthen his understanding of foundational concepts.
- Experiences challenges with executive functioning, including organization, attention, and staying engaged with academic tasks.
- Benefits from active, engaging approaches to learning rather than relying solely on worksheets or repetitive exercises.

- Needs an educator who can recognize when a teaching approach is not working and adjust instruction to help him understand.
- Is working toward rebuilding his academic confidence, developing greater independence, and feeling successful as a learner.

His family is looking for an educator who will become another trusted part of his learning journey. Together, you will focus on strengthening his academic skills, building confidence, and helping him develop a more positive relationship with learning.

We believe the best outcomes happen when teachers are not doing it alone.

At TeachItRight, we do not just match teachers with students. We bring together teachers and families who are committed to working as one team. That means families who value your professional expertise. Families who communicate openly. Families who understand that meaningful progress is built through consistency, collaboration, and trust.

You will never be expected to navigate challenges on your own. You will have a leadership team that checks in, listens, problem-solves alongside you, and genuinely wants you to succeed because we know that when our teachers feel supported, our students succeed too.

If this sounds like you, we would love to learn more about you.

We are looking for someone who:

- Is an Ontario Certified Teacher with Special Education qualifications and experience supporting students with ADHD, learning disabilities, and executive functioning challenges.
- Ideally holds Special Education Specialist qualifications, with experience working as a Learning Support Teacher, Resource Teacher, Special Education Teacher, or in a similar specialized teaching role.
- Has Intermediate Division qualifications or demonstrated experience teaching students in Grades 7–10.
- Is confident providing individualized instruction in Grade 7 English, Math, or both.
- Has experience interpreting student learning needs and adapting instruction based on IEPs, psychoeducational assessments, and ongoing observations.
- Believes relationships come before results.
- Understands that every child learns differently.
- Leads with patience, creativity, encouragement, and high expectations.
- Can recognize gaps in understanding and use evidence-based instructional strategies to help students develop stronger foundational skills.
- Knows how to celebrate the smallest breakthroughs because you have seen how those moments often become the foundation for something much bigger.

- Became a teacher because you wanted to make a meaningful difference in someone's life.

What you will be doing

You will work one-on-one with this student to create engaging, individualized learning experiences that support his academic goals. Depending on the subject you are matched for, your sessions may include:

- Identifying and addressing gaps in foundational English or Math skills.
- Adapting instructional strategies to support ADHD, learning differences, and executive functioning needs.
- Breaking down challenging concepts into manageable steps and checking for understanding.
- Incorporating engaging, interactive teaching approaches that help maintain attention and motivation.
- Supporting organization, task initiation, and greater independence in academic work.
- Helping the student rebuild confidence and develop a more positive relationship with learning.
- Building a trusting, positive relationship that helps the student feel confident and successful.

What you will receive

You will have the autonomy to do what you do best: teach, build relationships, and help your student succeed, while knowing you are supported every step of the way.

You will also receive:

- Competitive compensation of $80 to $100 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
- Guaranteed weekly hours, supported by clear cancellation and rescheduling policies.
- Carefully matched families who genuinely value collaboration.
- Ongoing support from TeachItRight's leadership team.
- The opportunity to be part of a growing community of exceptional educators who believe every child deserves the chance to succeed.
