Software Developer – Backend & Database (Full-Time)Position Overview

We are a GPS-based technology company seeking a Software Developer to join our development team, with a focus on backend application development, database programming, and data processing.

The role involves developing, maintaining, and improving software applications, APIs, integrations, and database systems that process large volumes of GPS and vehicle data.

Our primary technologies are Node.js, PHP, and MySQL. Strong database development and SQL optimization skills are particularly important. Experience with ClickHouse is beneficial but not required.

The successful candidate will work closely with Product Management, QA, and other technical resources to deliver reliable, efficient, and maintainable software.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

- Develop and maintain backend applications and services using Node.js and PHP.
- Build and maintain REST APIs, integrations, and data-processing services.
- Translate product requirements and development stories into reliable software solutions.
- Write clean, efficient, maintainable code following established development practices.
- Participate in technical design discussions, development planning, testing, and deployment.
- Troubleshoot application issues, identify root causes, and implement lasting solutions.

Database Development & Optimization

- Develop and optimize complex MySQL queries, stored procedures, and database functionality.
- Design and maintain database structures, relationships, indexes, and schemas.




- Analyze database performance using execution plans, query statistics, and optimization tools.
- Develop efficient solutions for processing and querying large volumes of GPS and telematics data.
- Investigate data inconsistencies and trace issues through applications, APIs, and databases.
- Support database migrations, schema changes, and data transformations.
- Work with additional database technologies, including ClickHouse, as our platform evolves.

Quality & Collaboration

- Test and debug completed development work and collaborate with QA on test coverage.
- Investigate and resolve production defects and performance issues.
- Work with Product Management to clarify requirements, estimate effort, and identify technical risks.
- Participate in Agile development processes and maintain appropriate technical documentation.

Technical Skills & Experience

- Professional software development experience with Node.js, PHP, and MySQL.
- Solid SQL skills, including complex queries, indexing, execution plans, and performance optimization.
- Experience designing and maintaining relational databases and working with large datasets.
- Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, XML, and system integrations.




- Experience troubleshooting backend applications, database performance, and data integrity issues.
- Familiarity with Git, Jira, and standard software development workflows.
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
- Experience with ClickHouse or other analytical database technologies is an asset.
- Familiarity with GPS, telematics, fleet management, mapping, or location-based services is beneficial but not required.

Work Schedule & Location

- Full-time position, approximately 40 hours per week.
- Flexible weekday hours, typically between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
- Hybrid arrangement: in-office Tuesday through Thursday at our downtown Kelowna office, with the option to work remotely Monday and Friday.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
