BUILD A BUSINESS, NOT JUST A JOB
Owner-Operator Development Opportunity
Custom Window Coverings & Specialty Installations — Metro Vancouver / Lower Mainland
Want to learn a specialized trade and build a business of your own?
Are you mechanically minded, good with your hands, and looking for more than another job? Do you take pride in doing things properly, enjoy solving problems, and have the ambition to eventually run a business?
An established custom interiors business with over 40 years of industry experience is seeking an ambitious, technically inclined individual to help develop a specialized window covering and installation division.
This is a unique opportunity to learn a valuable trade, gain hands-on experience, and work toward becoming an independent owner-operator, with the potential to build a team, manage installation crews, and expand into new markets.
No previous window covering industry experience is required. We will train the right person.
LEARN A SPECIALIZED TRADE
You will receive hands-on training and guidance in:
- Installation of custom draperies, sheers, blinds, shades and premium window coverings.• Hunter Douglas products, product knowledge and applicable training opportunities.• Motorized window coverings, motors, controls and automated operating systems.• Measuring, mounting techniques, troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs.• Installation of specialty upholstered furnishings, including window seats, beds and wall panels.• The finishing standards and attention to detail expected in high-end residential and commercial environments.
You will initially work alongside an experienced trainer, learning the trade on actual installation projects. As your skills and confidence develop, you will progressively assume greater responsibility.
THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You might be a carpenter's assistant, furniture installer, renovation worker, handyman, mechanically inclined tradesperson or someone with practical experience who enjoys figuring out how things work.
You should have:
- Practical experience using hand tools and power tools.• Basic construction, renovation, installation or other hands-on skills.• Good measurement skills and a strong eye for detail.• Mechanical and technical aptitude, with an interest in motors and automated systems.• Good communication skills and a professional, customer-focused attitude.• The ability to solve problems, work independently and take responsibility for your work.• A reliable,
organized and conscientious approach to serving clients in their homes and commercial spaces.• A genuine desire to develop a long-term career and eventually operate and grow a business.
You must have reliable transportation to and from work. During initial training, you will travel with the trainer to installation sites.
A PATHWAY TO BECOMING AN OWNER-OPERATOR
Our objective is to develop a specialized installation division with the right person taking an increasingly active role in its growth and success.
The opportunity is designed for someone who wants to progress beyond being an installer and develop the skills needed to operate a business.
As you demonstrate competence and the business grows, your responsibilities may expand to include:
- Managing installation appointments, schedules and projects.• Completing installations independently and handling service calls.• Building relationships with homeowners, interior designers, retailers and commercial clients.• Developing outside business opportunities in addition to work generated by the established business.• Taking responsibility for job quality, productivity and profitability.• Recruiting, training and managing additional installers.• Building installation crews and coordinating multiple projects.• Helping expand the operation into additional markets.
The business brings more than four decades of industry knowledge, established customer relationships, product expertise, fabrication capabilities and access to premium window covering products.
You bring your ambition, practical ability, leadership and willingness to build something of lasting value.
The long-term objective is to develop a capable operator who can grow a profitable installation business with the support of an established industry partner.
COMPENSATION AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Starting compensation: $25–$28 per hour, depending on experience and practical skills.
As you demonstrate competence and progress toward independent installations, there will be opportunities for compensation increases based on performance, responsibility and business development.
The longer-term opportunity may include performance-based earnings and a transition toward an independent owner-operator arrangement, subject to mutually agreed terms and the successful development of the business.
Our objective is to build a sustainable operation that offers the right individual the potential to earn six figures over time, with further opportunities to grow through additional installers and installation crews.
Six-figure earnings are a business objective, not a guaranteed salary. Actual earnings will depend on work volume, productivity, operating costs and the successful growth of the operation.
VEHICLE AND OPERATING SUPPORT
During the initial training period, you will travel with the trainer to installation sites. You must have reliable transportation to and from work.
As you become qualified to undertake installations independently, the need for a dedicated business vehicle will be assessed. The company may consider providing a suitable business vehicle as the installation operation develops and work volume justifies the investment.
Tools, equipment and other operating arrangements will be discussed as part of the training and career development plan.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
We are looking for someone who wants to learn, takes pride in quality workmanship, enjoys working with people and has the ambition to build and lead a business.
You do not need to know the window covering industry today. You do need the right attitude, practical aptitude, reliability and commitment to developing your skills.
If you are looking for a hands-on career with a pathway to independence, leadership and potential business ownership, we would like to hear from you.
This is an opportunity to build a business, not simply take a job.
HOW TO APPLY
Please submit a brief introduction outlining:
- Your practical, construction, mechanical or installation experience.• Your experience with tools, technical systems or hands-on problem-solving.• Why you are interested in learning a specialized trade.• What appeals to you about eventually becoming an independent owner-operator and building a team.
We are interested in meeting someone with the ability and ambition to grow with us.
The employing business's identity and further details of the proposed operating arrangement will be discussed with qualified candidates.
