On-site at Calgary, AB
ExxonMobil has been a leader in the energy sector for over 140 years. As ExxonMobil adapts to meet the increasing global demand for oil, natural gas, and refined products, it is committed to playing a pivotal role in energy transition. ExxonMobil’s mission, to fuel the world safely and responsibly, has never been more important.
Together, Raise and ExxonMobil are building teams that are rising to meet the world’s growing energy needs through the ExxonMobil Contingent Community—where skilled workers and unique contract opportunities meet.
Raise is taking applications for current openings like this one while building a diverse group of talent for future openings. When you apply for this role, you’ll also be considered for upcoming positions that align with your skills and qualifications.
Note: Successful applicants will be employees of Raise Limited, working at ExxonMobil facilities with both ExxonMobil employees and other contractors.
Overview
You help an energy operation solve real problems with artificial intelligence (AI), data, and automation. You sit between the people who run the business and the teams who build the tools. About 70% of your time goes to working with stakeholders and shaping requirements. The other 30% is hands-on technical work, like reviewing Python solutions and working with data. You succeed when a problem from the field becomes a clear plan, and then a tool people actually use.
Responsibilities
- Meet with business stakeholders, site staff, and engineers to understand their problems and what they need.
- Turn business needs into clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process maps, and work items.
- Work with a small AI solutions team, data scientists,
and developers to plan and deliver AI, analytics, and automation projects.
- Help set project scope, goals, risks, and success measures, and rank work by business value and effort.
- Review and work with Python solutions, often using AI-assisted coding tools.
- Pull and analyze data with Structured Query Language (SQL), Python, and Jupyter Notebook to find trends and root causes.
- Test solutions against requirements, log issues, and confirm the tool meets user needs.
- Track progress, risks, and decisions, and share clear updates with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Create documentation, demos, and training materials.
- Travel now and then to operating sites near Fort McMurray and Cold Lake.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience gathering requirements directly from business stakeholders and turning them into user stories, process maps, and work items.
- Working knowledge of Python and SQL. You don’t need to be a full-time developer, but you can read, review, and work with code.
- Experience with Jupyter Notebook.
- Experience on an Agile team.
- Robust communication skills and a track record of working with engineers, business users, and technical teams.
- A degree or diploma, or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to work mostly onsite in Calgary and travel occasionally to operating sites.
Preferred
- Databricks or Snowflake experience.
- Exposure to generative AI, such as AI agents, prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or responsible AI practices.
- Power BI or Tableau.
- Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, or other enterprise data platforms.
- Machine learning, optimization, or predictive analytics.
- Git, GitHub, Visual Studio Code, or Azure DevOps.
- Scrum or Kanban experience.
- Experience in energy, mining, or industrial operations.
