Driver Requirements
Technicians drive RestoTech vehicles. These requirements are set by our commercial automobile insurer. If you do not meet them, we cannot put you on the policy, no matter how good the rest of your application is.
You must have:
- A valid full Class 5 driver licence. Graduated and probationary licences do not qualify.
- At least three years of clean, continuous,
and recent insurance history.
- No at fault claims in the last five years.
- A five year driving abstract showing:
- No major convictions in the last three years.
- No more than three minor convictions in the last three years.
- No criminal convictions in the last three years.
What counts as a major conviction
Distracted driving. Driving without valid insurance. Driving without a valid licence. Excessive speeding, often 50 km/h or more over the limit. Failure to report an accident. Careless or stunt driving offences. Serious school or playground zone violations. Failing to stop for a stop sign or a red light. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This is not an exhaustive list.
What counts as a minor conviction
Speeding that is not excessive. Failure to obey a traffic sign. Improper lane change. Following too closely. Failure to yield the right of way. Improper turn. Failing to signal a turn or a lane change. Improper backing. Seatbelt infractions. Driving with defective equipment, depending on the circumstances. Failure to carry a driver licence. Failure to produce an insurance card. This is not an exhaustive list.
These requirements come from our insurer and can change. What counts as a major or a minor conviction is interpreted differently between provinces and municipalities, so the final decision rests with the insurer.

Drug and Alcohol Testing
This is a safety sensitive position. Restoration Technicians drive company vehicles, operate power tools and specialized drying and abatement equipment, work at heights and in confined spaces, and work inside occupied homes and multi unit residential buildings alongside coworkers, clients, and members of the public. Impairment while performing this work creates a direct risk of responsible injury to you, to your coworkers, and to the people whose homes we are working in, as well as a risk of significant damage to client property.
For that reason, and consistent with our obligations under applicable occupational health and safety legislation and our duty to provide and maintain a safe workplace, all offers of employment for this position are conditional on a satisfactory pre employment drug and alcohol test. Once hired, technicians remain subject to the RestoTech Drug and Alcohol Policy for the duration of their employment, including post incident and reasonable cause testing.
