Royce-Ayr Cutting Tools is a Cambridge manufacturer of precision cutting tools. We build custom and standard tooling, including solid carbide router bits and PCD-tipped (polycrystalline diamond) tools, for demanding machining applications, from our shop on Sheldon Drive.

We are looking for a CNC Grinding Machinist to set up and run our Vollmer VGrind and Walter Helitronic 5-axis CNC tool grinders, grinding solid carbide cutting tools, such as spiral router bits and end mills, from blank rod to finished tool.

If you have run a CNC grinder before, excellent. If you have not, we will train you. What we are looking for is someone who is careful with measurements, reliable, and wants to learn the trade.

No experience required, and the training goes further than just running the machine: you will be taught to program the grinders in NUMROTO and Walter's software.

What you will do:
Set up and run Vollmer VGrind and Walter Helitronic CNC tool grinders
Load blanks, run jobs and keep the robot loaders supplied
Grind flutes, cutting edges, clearances and points on solid carbide tools to print
Measure your own work with micrometers, calipers and gauges, and hold the tolerance
Make offset adjustments and change and dress grinding wheels
Learn to program tools in NUMROTO and Walter's software,



with training provided
Read prints and work instructions
Inspect, label and package finished tools, and keep the machines and work area clean

What you bring:
Comfortable with measurement and shop math, including reading a micrometer and working in thousandths of an inch
Positive attention to detail. You would rather check a tool twice than pass a bad one
Good spoken and written English
Reliable attendance and a willingness to learn
CNC grinding, CNC machining, a machining program, or CAD software experience are all a definite asset, but none of them are required
