Public Works Operator

The Municipal District of St. Stephen is seeking a dependable and motivated Public Works Operator to join our Public Works Department.

This is a full time, permanent union position represented by CUPE Local 770.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure – Public Works and/or Supervisor, the Public Works Operator performs a variety of skilled and general labour duties related to municipal infrastructure, equipment operation, maintenance, and construction.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Perform a wide range of labour-intensive and skilled mechanical, maintenance, and construction work.
- Operate heavy and light trucks and other Public Works equipment.
- Work on water main transmission lines, laterals, hydrants, reservoirs, and wells.
- Work on storm and sanitary transmission lines, laterals, lift stations, and lagoons.
- Perform street maintenance and general labour duties.
- Work outdoors and under varying environmental and weather conditions.
- Be available for call-outs and overtime work as required.

Qualifications

- Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Post-secondary education in Civil or Environmental Technology is preferred.
- Valid Class III E Driver’s Licence.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.




- Previous experience in a municipal Public Works Department or related field is considered an asset.

Additional Training

The successful candidate will be required to complete water distribution courses as required under the Municipality’s Approval to Operate.

Compensation

$31.75 per hour
40 hours per week
Overtime and call-out work may be required.
