THRIVE Child Development Centre is looking for community-minded individuals to join our volunteer Board of Directors and help shape the future of children's rehabilitation and developmental services across Algoma.

Every year, THRIVE supports more than 3000 children and families in Sault Ste. Marie and throughout the District of Algoma. We provide services for children and youth with physical, communication, developmental, and rehabilitation needs, helping them build skills, achieve their goals, and participate fully at home, at school, and in their communities.

Our team includes therapists, educators, social workers, family support professionals, and many other specialists who work together to help children thrive.

As THRIVE continues to grow and evolve, we are seeking new Board members who are passionate about strengthening services for children and families and who can bring diverse perspectives to our governance and strategic decision-making.

Who We're Looking For

You do not need previous Board experience to apply. We are looking for individuals who care about children and families, live within the Algoma region, are committed to giving back to their community, and can bring valuable skills and perspectives to our Board.

At this time, we are particularly seeking individuals with experience in:

- Finance, accounting, auditing, or risk management
- Legal, regulatory compliance, or governance
- Marketing, communications, public relations, or community engagement
- Healthcare, rehabilitation, child development, or health system leadership

We would love to hear from people who:
- Share THRIVE's commitment to helping children and families reach beyond what is expected
- Bring professional expertise, lived experience, or strong community connections
- Communicate well and enjoy working collaboratively
- Demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, and respect for confidentiality
- Can commit the time needed to prepare for and participate in Board activities





We also welcome applications from parents and caregivers of children receiving THRIVE services, Francophone community members, and Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit community members. What Does a Board Director Do?

THRIVE's Board of Directors provides governance and strategic oversight for the agency. Board members help ensure THRIVE remains financially strong, accountable, and focused on delivering high-quality services to children and families across the region.

Board members are volunteers who:

- Support THRIVE's mission, vision, and values
- Contribute their professional knowledge and lived experience
- Participate in Board discussions and decision-making
- Serve on Board committees as needed
- Act in the best interests of the organization and the communities we serve

Time Commitment The Board meets monthly from September through June, typically on the last Tuesday of the month. Meetings begin at 5:00 p.m. and generally last 1.5 to 2 hours. Virtual participation is available when needed. Board terms are three years, with the prospect for renewal. In addition to attending Board meetings, Directors may have the opportunity to contribute through Board committees and working groups. These committees provide an opportunity for members to apply their professional expertise in areas such as finance and audit, governance, quality and risk, strategic planning, fundraising, community engagement, and other priority initiatives.
