Haakon Industries

Kingston

Haakon Industries is a manufacturing company whose mission is to breathe life into an advanced and responsible future. We accomplish our goal by making engineered-to-order products of exceptional quality, solving challenges with technical and sustainable solutions, and maintaining healthy working relationships.

Position Summary

Haakon Industries is looking for an IT Generalist to join our two-person IT team at our Kingston facility. You will own the networks, servers, and hardware that keep our office and plant running, including the infrastructure behind the manufacturing system our operations depend on.

You'll start by learning our environment alongside our current IT team member. As you get to know our process, you'll take a growing role in improving and evolving our infrastructure as the company changes and new opportunities arise. This role suits someone who enjoys keeping systems reliable, finding better ways to do things, and helping non-technical colleagues use technology effectively.

IT Operations & User Support

- Provide technical support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and plant-floor technology.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Manage user onboarding and offboarding, including Active Directory accounts, Exchange mailboxes, permissions, and equipment deployment.
- Develop and maintain IT documentation, procedures, and user guides.
- Build positive working relationships with employees at all levels, from the plant floor to the office.

Manufacturing Systems Support

- Maintain the servers, workstations, network, and devices that the company's manufacturing system depends on at this location.
- Own backup and recovery for the manufacturing system's data, including regular restore testing, so production can recover quickly from any failure.

- Work closely with our department managers and development team on infrastructure-related issues and on deploying system updates at this site.
- Monitor performance and troubleshoot hardware and network problems that affect production.

Infrastructure & Systems Administration

- Administer Microsoft Exchange Server, Active Directory, Windows Server, file storage, and Microsoft Office deployment and licensing.
- Maintain servers, switches, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure across the office and production areas.
- Perform system updates, patch management, software deployments, and preventative maintenance.
- Monitor system health and address risks before they affect operations.
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning for this site.

Cybersecurity & Risk Management

- Implement and maintain security best practices across servers, workstations, email, and network equipment.
- Keep Exchange Server and other internet-facing systems patched and monitored, and respond to threats and vulnerabilities.
- Maintain appropriate access controls for business-critical systems and data.
- Help separate and protect production networks and plant-floor equipment from office and internet traffic.
- Educate employees on cybersecurity awareness and safe computing practices.

Projects & Continuous Improvement

- Act as a technology resource for plant leadership and staff, translating technical information into practical guidance.

- Plan and carry out infrastructure projects such as hardware refreshes, network upgrades, and Exchange or Office upgrades.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers, and support technology procurement.
- Recommend improvements that support productivity, quality, and the company's changing needs.

Qualifications

Required

- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3–7 years of IT experience in systems and network administration.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server, and Microsoft Office.

- Solid understanding of networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, wireless, and firewalls.
- Hands-on experience with backup and recovery, including restoring systems and data.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and clear verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Assets

- Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
- Certifications such as CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, or ITIL.
- Project management experience.
- Experience with vendor management and technology procurement.

Work Workplace

- Based at our manufacturing facility, with regular interaction with office and production staff.
- Occasional after-hours work for maintenance, upgrades, or critical incidents, shared between the two-person IT team.
- Ability to lift, move, and install computer and network equipment.
